This was the first year over the new Bridge. It's really become an event, 33,000 crossed the finish line. You have everything from the elite Kenyan runners to walkers who dress up in funny outfits. Patty did real well finishing in the top 12% in her age group...I managed to keep up with her. We're certainly not hardcore runners but we did train for this one, this run becomes the goal and reason to exercise and train. The view from the top of the bridge is awesome, you can see all of Charleston harbor, Fort Sumter, the Battery park area and the Yorktown in her mooring. Personally I like going for the low country cooking!! Charleston is one of our favorite cities and this is destined to be an annual event for us.... read more

Went out to Southern Utah last June with Becky and Gary (Patty's sister and bro-in-law). Had a great villa just outside the Zion National Park entrance. We did a lot of hiking and sightseeing around Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon. We then took scenic Rt. 12 up to Capital Reef National Park for a few days. The Capital Gorge hike is really awe inspiring. Patty and I are going to begin our Spring trip in May at Arches National Park and go on to the Tetons, Yellowstone and Glacier NP. Here's some pics:... read more

There really are alot of neat places to go and see right here in Florida. Here's some places we visited while learning about the ways of camping in a trailer. It's funny because we used to just go to these kind of places with a tent when we were in our 20's and kind of snickering about the old geezers in the campers and now we're the old geezers pulling the camper and not really roughing it ....but I guess, for us anyway, that's just the way it is! The accomodations are alot nicer but we're still enjoying being with nature, the fresh air, hiking and we're having fun and doing OK. So far we've been to: 7/05- Silver Springs state park- Ocala area - 1st road trip 8/05 - Fort Desoto Park - St. Pete ... read more

May, 2005.... Got her all cleaned up, now we've got to figure out how to use this thing. Patty told me later that when we first pulled the thing off the lot she was thinking "Oh my God what have we got ourselves into?" But being old sailors, we knew about conserving water and batteries and self sufficiency. Besides, parking this thing is a lot easier than docking a 37'sailboat in a cross wind or currents! Our goal is to see much of the natural beauty this country has to offer, especially the national and state parks and scenic areas. We wanted a camper because we wanted to be right in the middle of the parks with fresh air, scenery, hiking trails, less crowds and no motels. That and we're too old for tent camping anymore! ... read more
