| 23rd June 2007 Pearlyn | Amazing! - From: Finally.. in Cape Town! I can't believe you've travelled so far and for so long, and alone most of the time. I told KC that I enjoy reading your blog because it's something I will never do. So I can only experience it vicariously via your blog. And oooh, those tears...that I think I can empathise. Take care! |
| 23rd June 2007 bud | congratulations!!!! - From: Finally.. in Cape Town! You have finally made it! We are proud of your achievement, I don't think I can do that, but I am sure I can do it at a much shorter time than you did, kekeke. 3 months, time really flies. Be careful in SA, that may be the most dangerous place in your entire journey. Unlike the other ulu places you have visited, where people are more simple in their lives. Cape Town is like New York in the past, or the present Shenzhen, people are hungry yet they have no other avenues but to do vices to achieve what they want. On the homepage, its really amazing to see that red region you had travelled on the African continent, crossed the Tropic of Cancer, crossed the Equator and crossed the Tropic of Capricorn... very well said. BRAVO! OK, see you soon. Do be extra careful. |
| 17th June 2007 Hank | Very good, useful blog! - From: Victoria Falls - Zambian Side Hey, Your blog is full of good, practical tips to help me plan my trip. Basically I'll be following in your footsteps in a couple of weeks - and I'll try to avoid your mistakes - like the money-changing trick! Thanks for your reports. Hank in Bangkok |
| 16th June 2007 Chivalry | 3 months is nothing! - From: Swakopmund - Where desert dunes and the ocean meet... Tell dad that during my travels.. I've met a Korean who has been travelling for 16months.. an American who has been travelling for a year.. and an Egyptian who has been travelling for 3 years! (record holder for me so far).. SO 3 months is nothing =) haha.. yah.. i think i get the message from dad =) |
| 16th June 2007 bud | yeah, saw that cafe on the Google Earth as well :-) - From: Swakopmund - Where desert dunes and the ocean meet... Dad just commented that he had never heard people going for a tour that lasts 3 months, never .... haha, it carries a message. |
| 9th June 2007 Chewbacca | Money No Problem - From: Maun - The Safari Gateway to Botswana Ahhhh, you spend money. Nevermind! Cos must enjoy while you're there. The desert awaits you in Dubai. Then you want safari oso dun have. So follow your every whim and fancy. Heh heh. But come back in one piece. With gugujiao attached. |
| 7th June 2007 bud | you did all the dangerous stuffs today... - From: Victoria Falls - Zimbabwean Side ... chanlege the local money changer and the bungee jumping. I wonder if the Google translator is able to convey your stunts in Chinese well. I am sure dad will not be that adventurous. |
| 6th June 2007 Chivalry | erm.. backpackers are still tourists.. - From: Photos for Ngorongoro Crater and backpackers also go see taj mahal and eiffel tower and machu pichu and merlion spew water and other touristy sites.. backpacking is just a shoestring way of travelling.. and from east africa southwards.. most of the places are already developed in tourism.. not all african countries are like sudan and ethiopia.. the lioness thing may be an upload glitch.. will check.. thanks! |
| 4th June 2007 Psycho | Aims and Results - From: Photos for Ngorongoro Crater Bro, just my personal opinion. You said that you embarked on this trip in the backpacker's way so that you can go out hitting the ground and be one with the locals. However, your pictures show the touristy photographs. Feels like I am looking at typical shots taken by a tourist, not an adventurer. Maybe you chose to convey that through your posts? But it would be nice to see a different side of your journey instead of just reading about it. Dun "niao" me hor! I only share my feelings with you mah! Heh heh... And also, you named one of your photopgraphs as "Close up of lioness" (http://www.travelblog.org/Africa/Tanzania/Ngorongoro-Crater/blog-165458-21.html) First, there were two of them but secondly and more importantly, I don't think lionesses have spots... :/ |
| 4th June 2007 Chivalry | I'll be your godson! - From: Victoria Falls - Zimbabwean Side Li Zong.. you big boss already lah.. i'll be your godson and photographer! =) |
| 4th June 2007 Psycho | Your parents need a godson? - From: Victoria Falls - Zimbabwean Side Then you can bring me go and see Vic Falls too... I'd pass on the bungie and you cansave money. I'd be your photographer/videopgrapher so that there'd be someone to capture your graceful descend for you next time. Camera and lenses not included. |

| 23rd May 2007 Psycho | Sounds like.... Phuket - From: 2 Days of Diving at Zanzibar (Photos uploaded!) Nice nice nice...! The plantation tour, the dives, etc! Sounds like fun... but in a way also sounds like Phuket. Join the Siam Safari, ride elephant, ride ox cart, go canoeing, see rubber tappingm see fruit trees. Somehow, the ang mohs always like mountain tortoise never see before even though there are a lot of orchard homestays in Australia that even have the mysterious miracle fruit. You very studious. Go diving still bring dive chart. Really is not forget your engineering background. Tried drift diving once in Phuket with strong currents and it feels like you are using DPV. Shiokz! But must have good control but won't be able to make superman pose lah. Funny thing is that you will see the fish also fight against the current and bob up and down with the waves/current (relative to the rocks). Wonder if they get motion sickness... ... |
| 19th May 2007 Rae | Make the Best out of this Moment - From: Zanzibar - dream destination for many... (Photos uploaded!) | 14th May 2007 Tim S. | Good point - From: Mombasa - Gateway to Africa I'm not entirely sure, but I have heard of some africans who ended up in india during those times, but I'm sure also that the amounts of people who came to kenya and the ones who went from kenya to india are disproportionate...it could also be, like you said, because of the goods and stuff...so I'm not really sure...anywayz, look forward to the next entry |
| 14th May 2007 erictjie | Tanzania - From: Back in Nairobi I like Tanzania better than Masaai Mara, because you see more games in Tanzania. Don't change Zimbabwe dollars , they are useless. Did You try the game meat restaurant in Nairobi? |

| 11th May 2007 Chivalry | Thank you - From: Mombasa - Gateway to Africa Hi Tim, thank you for your comment and for providing the answer. I guess the question that i'm asking now would be why didn't kenyans go over to India as well? A friend said that this is the same reason as why the malays from Singapore did not go to china/india.. maybe the british only allowed singular direction.. or the ships on the voyage back are filled with precious goods from Africa / Southeast Asia for trade.. |
| 10th May 2007 Tim S. | Great read - From: Mombasa - Gateway to Africa It's interesting to read a perspective on my country from a different person...to answer the question you asked earlier in this blog about the indians, the reason why they were brought to kenya was to build a railway that would connect uganda to kenya during colonial times by the british...good luck on your travels and I'll look forward to reading your next entry |
| 10th May 2007 Chewbacca | Very exciting - From: Overnight stop on the way to lalibela Wah, long time no read your entry but really very shiok. Sounds very exciting! I'm still In Paris. Will leave Sunday noon. This afternoon go underground cemetery hehehe |

| 24th April 2007 Psycho | Entrepreneurship - From: Mombasa - Gateway to Africa Woot! I think the kids that you met on the train ride who has red flowers very creative leh! they dared to be different! They are trying new method of marketing! FOREIGN TALENT!!! Singapore would need them! Then again, they might just be normal uncorrupted village kids. I tried to think about your singular direction question and... hey! It inspried me to uncover such great mysteries like: (1) How come the europeans followed the Spanish (i.e. Columbus) lead to migrate/move to the New World but not the other way round? Would have been nice to meet Iron Rod (son of Sitting Bull) in Paris, don't you think? How come the Chinese move from China to SE Asia but not the Malays from Malaysia/Indonesia? Hmmm... perhaps having come from Indon yourself, you can may know the answer to that? ;-) |
| 23rd April 2007 Chivalry | Return of the Smelly Sandals!! - From: Arrived in Nairobi! - Photos updated! can't find any sports sandals here in nairobi.. so I actually put more duct tape on my sandals yesterday.. haha.. they look pretty brand new now... heh.. but yah.. maybe smelly.. i dunno.. i dun dare to go smell.. duct tape is king! i also realized that my water proof document-holder is torn.. no worries.. duct tape! it's water proof again! |

| 22nd April 2007 Psycho | Jiang Gong Shu Zui - From: Arrived in Nairobi! - Photos updated! Hah hah hah.... can you make amends for not answering my many calls and thus wasting my IDD charges by uploading the photos of those sexy African tribeswomen? (IDD charges start the moment the phone rings, not the moment you answer) Many guns with rectangular magazines. Should have taken a photo so that I can try and identify it for you. Then would have had more details for your trip! |

I went thru all to get the damn visa and then got to the border and realised that loads of pple are fleeing out... up north to Egypt, Wadi Halfi side cos there was a big fight at the border... all borders were closed... no tourists allowed. The only good thing is I get to make so many Sundanese frens... They shared with me their life stories... Therefore I head back Cairo and changed my plans... head east to Jordan and Israel instead. | 10th April 2007 Psycho | While you were half a world away... - From: Shihedi - Bahir Dar While you were half a world away, I thought I'd be nice enough to share some recent happenings at what I presume would be your newly adopted "home" country: http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/04/09/asia/AS-GEN-Singapore-Ministers-Salaries.php Looks like we've better to start planning diversifications soon. Maybe I should start a business to collect those abandoned APCs and tanks in Ethiopia for the scrap metal or recycling business. Recycling should be big business now that our resources are sucked dry faster than we can say "60%" Or if you prefer a comic break, http://www.insanepoly.com Maybe you could put all that travelling to good use and locate one of those nice round hut in Ethiopia for me? Hah hah hah hah.. |

| 3rd April 2007 Chivalry | Sudan is big - From: Finally.. in Khartoum! Sudan is big.. and most of its land is safe.. Darfur, which is in the west is the most dangerous.. so dun go there.. the civil war in the south has eased up.. it is actually safe to travel there now... but not many tourist facilities like hotels and internet cafes etc.. Next trip here.. (when? hehe) I'm thinking of going to Kassala (East) and check out the South (they say it's beautiful)... anyone on? =) Nothing in the north except deserts and sand.. |

| 3rd April 2007 Psycho | Which Sudan...? - From: Finally.. in Khartoum! After reading your blog, I am full of admiration for you. However, it brings to mind the recent troubles in Sudan so widely publicized in the media of late. See today's edition of CNN: http://edition.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/africa/04/02/darfur.killing.reut/index.html So... I'm just wondering how many Sudans are there (maybe got north and south or east and west, me no sure). Whatever it is, please take care in your travels. War (and carnage) is the last thing you'd want to see. Travel far, travel wide, travel SAFE. |
| 3rd April 2007 Psycho | Very impressive! - From: Finally.. in Khartoum! Whao... when you told me you were going on a "Africa On A Shoe-string Tour", I thought it was to be a arranged tour but seems like you stuck to your impromptu roots well. Damned, if the experience you accumulated in your trip, I don't see what's there to stop you from winning the next season of Amazing Race Asia. Johan johan all the wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy! |

| 26th March 2007 Psycho | Baksheesh... - From: Egypt Epilogue Hmm.... I think the Egyptian are being very polite to actually ask instead of just thrusting themselves at you. Maybe they are recipocrating your trust in people by asking you nicely? It is nice to hear that my friend can let his guard down and still remain an anal virgin. Are you sure that they are asking for baksheesh? Maybe they are asking for "backside" but pronounced it as baksheesh due to their arabic accent? ;-) |
