So we drove from Vicksburg, MS to Pensacola, FL on Fiday the 20th. We ended up spending one extra day and night in Vicksdurg because there was a lot to see, good food and good luck on the riverboat casino. The next target was the Naval Aviation Museum on the Naval base in Pensacola. Damned if I didn't see diesel fuel in Mississippi for a buck eighty four a gallon. Should have bought some just because but didn't need any. My background as a pilot was civilian having learned to fly in '75 at Livermore Airport in California. In another life [View Full Entry]

Well now, today Marilyn was out of bed and going with me. Yesterday I did the battlefield by myself but with a guide. That is always the best way to do it. Today we did the historic downtown section. This town has a nice feel to it. This battle or siege was fought in 1863. It ended on the 4th of July, the day after Gettysburg fell. Two major defeats for the Confederacy at once. Hard to believe the war went on for two more years. Anyway, General Grant came down the Mississippi from the north on boats, some of which [View Full Entry]

Well it has been a while on the 'ol blog-a-roo so here is an update. We actually left Sandpipers Resort in McAllen, TX on Friday February 13th. We got to San Antonio the first day since we played 3 sets of tennis before leaving. On Saturday, we went on over to Live Oak for one night. It is a beautiful park but no tennis courts. There is a sand volleyball court but no players around. It was Valentine's Day and also not very warm so we figure that made for the light turnout. Well that made it time to head [View Full Entry]

Mexico Day North America » Mexico
Well today we drove from the resort to Nuevo Progreso. It is a border town only about 43 miles worth of driving away. It is a safe place with mostly shopping for activity so needless to say, Marilyn liked it a lot more than I did but I still liked it as an excursion. It is basically one main drag and it is quite repetitive after you go the first block or so. Pharmacy, dentist, restaurant, store with useless crap for sale.....and then it does that all over again for a mile or more. The locals don't mob you too [View Full Entry]

Well apparently everyone is chomping at the bit for an update to our travelblog. I made that up. We haven't done anything to speak of lately except hang out at Sandpipers, play tennis and take in a couple movies. By the way, Gran Torino and Valkrie are very good, especially Gran Torino. This is the friendliest group of people and we are amazed at how inclusive they are regardless of how long we have been here. We were mobbed the minute we came through the gate with greetings and invitations. Very warm and impressive. They have a very busy calender [View Full Entry]

ok here we go. We ended up staying in San Antonio another day and night. This would not be my last choice in places to live. I have always liked it and still do. We did the River Walk again with some fine Mexican dining and saw a movie at the IMAX on....you guessed it...The Alamo. We also ran into another couple that we had met a year ago at a different resort. Amazing coincidence since they live in Mexico. The motorhome is kind of a handy device. We wanted to go to a club on Friday night and the owner [View Full Entry]

Alrighty then. Today is New Years Day. Yep. It was a beautiful day here, about 70 degrees. We decided to make it an Alamo day eventhough we had both done it before. I have seen it numerous times due to layovers here over the years. Anyway, it was pretty much mobbed with people. Everyone had the day off and nobody had hangovers apparently. Of course that includes the Riverwalk and that is always fun with live music, shops and yes, the river. [View Full Entry]

Yesterday was a driving day. 450 miles to be a bit more exact. We left Carlsbad after one of the best Mexican breakfasts I have ever had. There is not a lot to see on this drive. We headed down 285 through Pecos and Fort Stockton to the I 10 east and got to within an hour of San Antonio at a place called Kerrville. Neat historic town known for it's annual folk festival of music. Today we are going to go just one hour in order to be in San Antonio for New Years Eve. This is in the [View Full Entry]

Well now, today was interesting. It finally made it up to 71 degrees but inside the cave it is 56 degrees all the time. We did the longest tour and it was self guided. Spectacular scenery and quite the workout. There was no need to follow up with tennis or volleyball afterwords. A few pictures turned out and few did not so naturally we decided to keep the ones that did. The trusty IPhone did well considering the low lighting down there. We were down there for about 3 hours. After that we did the Super Walmart for provisions and [View Full Entry]

Oops, it turns out Marilyn had a few pictures on her camera that we needed to add to the blog. Just in case there are a few of you that refuse to believe(Ron) that it wasn't that cold, here is the proof. We arrived in Las Vegas the day it snowed like crazy! The flakes were big and beautiful - but it caused hours of traffic delays with the commuters and the air travelers. Jeff was glad he was traveling in an RV. Some of our tennis friends from GE came to Vegas for the weekend to celebrate some birthdays [View Full Entry]
