Getting excited now! Unfortunately this isn't planning for the interrailing that I hope to be able to do at some point in the fairly near future, but it is planning of a road trip my friend and me have decided to take at Easter. A while back my friend mentioned she wanted to see Bronte Country, as do I. But we dismissed it, thinking we'd have to wait until the summer. But earlier this evening I was beginning to think I needed to get out of here, even only for a few days, and the Easter Holidays seemed as good a time as any. So after working through a number of ideas; #1 - One tank of petrol, a road map of England and about 2 or 3 days = see where I ended up. #2 ... read more
Arrived at London Victoria Train Station and caught the tube over to Oxford Circus where I was meeting my friends. We spent the afternoon wandering up and down Regent Street, waiting for them to finish building the stage for the Christmas Light switch on. Then joined the queue that had formed next to the stage, around 3pm. We managed to stand by the barrier which was on the edge of the road with traffic still driving past until about 5pm when they eventually closed the road. The event started with Hollyoaks star John Pickard arriving on stage to introduce The London Community Gospel Choir, who sang a number of songs. John Pickard then came back on stage this time with a special guest.....Pudsey! The choir sang a few more songs, before John came back once more. ... read more
I've always wanted to go to Lewes Bonfire. It's one of the best known, probably the best known bonfire/fireworks night in the south of England. So when my dad told me he was helping out Lewes Borough Band, I jumped at the chance of going as well. Mum and me arrived in Lewes around 5.30pm, to the police closing the roads surround the town, and managed to park the car in a road on the outskirts of the town (which turns out to be not far from the Lewes Borough Bonfire site). We wandered into the town to try and find where the Borough Band was starting out from, but got a bit lost and found two other processions instead. Eventually we found the YMCA where the band and society had started from, and kept returning ... read more
28th October 2008 Was half term so I didn't have to worry about college, which meant I could get whichever train I wanted. Arrived at London Victoria Train Station about 10.30am and got the tube to Tottenham Court Tube Station, then went to find the Astoria where the band One Night Only were playing. I arrived at the venue at about 11am to find my friends outside already, two of them having been there since 8am. Nothing much really happened until about 1pm when the band turned up in their tour bus, which they parked near/in? a bus lane and almost got two parking tickets from two wardens in the space of 15 minutes. They took the equipment into the venue, the lead singer using wheeled box as a skateboard which resulted in him getting told ... read more
Three Times in Three Weeks! Must be a record for me, even if I seem to have spent more time in London this summer than I did all of last year, I don't think I managed it three weeks running. Though it's not even three weeks, it's actually only 16 days! 21st October 2008 Had college in the morning so didn't set off for London until around 2pm. Got to Charing Cross where I was meeting my friends then headed off for the tube to take us to TV Centre at White City (tube station). Arrived at TV Centre to find a rather long queue outside the audience entrance. After going into the glass building next door to see if we where in the right place, and finding a couple of daleks, sadly no David Tennant ... read more
...my now favourite place in the world! I love it! Finally, after dreaming about going there ever since a few years ago, I finally got on that train and made the 4+ hour journey to York. Saturday 11th October 2008 So after about five hours sleep on Friday night, I got into dads car to head to the station to catch the 6.20am train to London Victoria. After saying goodbye to dad, I headed into the station to find the right platform. Waiting on the platform for a bit longer than planned as he train was a few minutes delayed. Made it to London around 7am and headed towards the underground to get the Victoria line to London King's Cross station. As my train was leaving King's Cross at about 8am, I had just under an ... read more
So... my gap year. A month interrailing around Europe... see places i've never seen before. At the moment it looks something like this... London to Brussels - Where i'll spend one night, probably not long enough but i'm only really going there as it's easier than flying, and i've already seen a lot of the city before. To Luxembourg - Spending two nights there. Not sure why i've chosen Luxembourg, but i'm facinated to see city, after finding out there are less people living there than the county in which I live. To Zurich - Three nights. This city seems so beautiful that I just have to go there. To Vienna - Two nights. Wasn't planning on going there, however to get to Zagreb I would have to go from one of five places I think ... read more
