Off to the beach Europe » Spain
Yesterday was a failed attempt to go to a local market in Altea, we had wondered if it would be open because of All Saints Day (nov 1) but got off with a busload of other tourists, wandered around a bit, and realized it was closed. So, we got on the train and went to Denia. The train ride was much less nausea-inducing than the bus ride we took to Calpe. And the train wasn´t 30 min late, then didn´t skip our scheduled stop and drop us off on the on-ramp to the highway at night, making us walk 30 min [View Full Entry]

Have been enjoying the last few days in Spain. The weather has been very nice, mostly sunny, although the water is a bit chilly - fine once you get in! Lots of development around this area. We went through the old town in Benidorm last night, had some great pizza and some gelato....yum! Very neat town with the narrow cobblestone streets and terraced buildings - you can almost imagine it hundreds of years ago! Took a half day trip to Guadalest - built in 1400 or something crazy - initially settled by Muslims, and it is perched on top of some [View Full Entry]

So, here we are in Benidorm Spain, after finding out last minute about our honeymoon being cancelled to Mexico. What a tragedy, for us it could have been much worse had we already been down there. Hopefully Mexico can recover quickly and there is not too much devastation. Flew to London from Ottawa, after attending my brother´s wedding, in hopes of finding somewhere else to go --Paris, Spain, Canary Islands. We miscalculated a little since it is school break in the UK and everything was booked. We told the travel agent that we wanted something ¨quiet and peaceful¨so she sent us [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone We are already home in Calgary but thought I would write one more log for our weekend in SF. Did some touristy things, but first things first, went to the North Face outlet in Berkely (took the light rail then a bus) but unfortunately they were weak in the clearance dept. However I bought some quick dry shirts for cheap for working out and hiking. Went to the Royal Robbins outlet and bought some clothes there, but no cheap down jackets anywhere to be seen.... Diane, I'm sure that we went by your old house (was it 1825, on [View Full Entry]

Hey Everyone Adding perhaps a last entry as we enter our final stage of travel to San Fran for the weekend. Stayed at the Sijori Sentosa Resort. Sounds a lot nicer than it really was, with stinky towels and poor air conditioning, but the island was fun for the 8 hours we were there. Didn't see the Butterfly farm but went to "Underwater World" which was actuallly a very nice aquarium. Did a "jungle hike" for 1.5km which was pretty cheesy with fake dragon bones but also very neat. Saw a great kids' show called the musical fountains with those fountains [View Full Entry]

Hello My turn (Caroline). Today decided to take it easy. Quelled the rising anxiety about leaving tomorrow and trying to get more shopping in, although dont' really have anything specific left to buy. I'm sure I can find something.....to which Ken makes a variety of pig like grunting noises.. The dress is not exactly as I expected but it is very beautiful (and couldn't beat the price). I really wanted 2-ply rough silk but they said that it wouldn't work well with a dress (although I think that is what the dress I tried on was made from....) but who am [View Full Entry]

Hello to all! Well, never thought I'd be happy to be back in Bangkok but well..here we are. I think the most satisfying thing for Caroline is the multitude of smoke free areas here while Vietnam is well..its basically a smoke festival (and we all know how well she tolerates smoking). My particular favorite was the guy who fired up a pipe in a restaurant yesterday (yikes!). While the weather is its usual humid hot and nasty best it is nice to be back in Thailand. Even Caroline uttered I'd like to be back in the -30C weather at home. I [View Full Entry]

Hey everyone... What happened to all the great comments? I guess you are getting tired of our long descriptions of how much fun we are having.... Last night tonight in Vietnam. Mixed feelings, and can't believe our vacation is coming close to an end. Took a one day tour to the Mekong Delta today. It was quite interesting to see how some things like rice paper and coconut candies were made. Also made us glad that we were born in Canada. The poverty is pretty bad in this part of the world. Too bad I don't know how to upload my [View Full Entry]

Welcome back to Phu Quoc Island. We have been here for some time now and have had some fun and some not so fun. I will talk about the fun since we can always regail people with not so fun stories if they desire. I am now officially an open water scuba diver after 4 dives aboard the SS. Rainbow Divers boat. Got to see all kinds of neat critters under the water like blue speckled moray eels and nudibranches. Caroline got to join me on my last dive and since my instructor and I felt she was missing out from [View Full Entry]

Hey, me again. Got some really fast internet here on Phu Quoc - surprising since it is a small island, maybe less computers to compete with bandwith. Got to Phu Quoc yesterday. Staying at a fancy resort (Saigon Phu-Quoc), which is quite nice but we could have gotten way cheaper. Oh well, we can't be bothered with the touts anymore choosing a place. It is so different than Mexico because it is so quiet, there are usually only 5-6 people around the pool at a time. The beach is nice, the water is ok, not like Phuket which is crystal clear, [View Full Entry]
