Meg I'm a Canadian university graduate that has no clue what to do with my life so I thought going to teach English in South Korea would be a great opportunity for me!

What a way to spend a few short days off! When my friend Ayden told me he'd be stopping in Malaysia for a few days while crossing the globe I jumped at the chance to have some face time with someone from home. I love all my friends in Korea but they only know me as Korea Megan, while people from home know me in a different light. After a few speed bumps and what seemed like a dead end, some light did eventually burst through the end of the tunnel. So with a Korean friend willing to come in and [View Full Entry]

This past weekend was Chuseok, basically it is Korea's version of Thanksgiving. So to celebrate not so much the holiday itself but the 4 days off that were given to us, my coworker Michelle and I booked flights to Beijing and got the heck out of Daegu! The crappy part of traveling outside of Korea is that more often than not you have to get up to Incheon to fly because flights never seem to leave from the International airports closer to Daegu. This meant that for a 9am flight we had to be at the airport for 7 which meant [View Full Entry]

Say Kimchi! Asia » South Korea
Every country has its signature dish, some kind of food that immediately makes you think of it. In Korea that dish is hands down Kimchi. You don't tell the kids to "say cheese" when you're taking a picture you tell them to "say kimchi!" Children aren't little tots they are "little kimchi's", and I'm pretty sure that Korea's original slogan was not in fact "Land of the morning calm" but rather "Land of the morning, afternoon, and night kimchi". Kimchi is certainly not the most delicious national food out there but it is probably the most consistent! If you find yourself [View Full Entry]

The past 10 months living in Daegu, South Korea have been everything I could have hoped for and so much more which is such a cliche to say that I almost don't want to say it! That being said I stick by it! Since arriving I have traveled across this wonderful country, visited Hong Kong, Australia and Tokyo and I have met some amazing people from all over the world. So when it was time to start thinking about where to go for winter vacation I thought to myself "Self you can go anywhere in the world, the world is your [View Full Entry]

This past Friday/Saturday I took part in the Daegu Theater Troupe's first ever project. The event was called "The 24 Hour Theater Project". This meant that on Friday we were put into teams with 2-4 actors, a writer and a director and the writer had to come up with a script by 9am the following morning. The actors and directors were to arrive at Club That on Saturday morning to begin working on their plays. Skot and I who were paired up in a group (her being our SPLENDID director and me one of the actresses) left home bright and early [View Full Entry]

So you live in South Korea and you want to go on a trip for a long weekend but you don't know where to go. Seoul is going to be busy because it's well...Seoul! Busan is going to be busy because the Busan International Film Festival is taking place and Daegu is well...Daegu and not exactly a well known vacation spot! So how about jumping on a plane and jetting off to exciting Tokyo for the weekend. That's right Tokyo...FOR THE WEEKEND! Sure living near the American border in Canada allowed me to go to another country whenever I felt the [View Full Entry]

Recently I have received a fair amount of emails relating to what it's like in Korea and would I recommend someone pack as much as they can in a couple of suitcases, say goodbye to the life they know well, go out one last time with friends and indulge in that family dinner that everyone has been meaning to do for sometime. The answer is a very enthusiastic YES! Naturally Korea isn't for everyone, but if you like to travel, are open to new experiences and are willing to curb your own idea of what daily life is like than you [View Full Entry]

What a great weekend with my co-workers!  We climbed into one of the school buses and headed North East...or South East (not sure!) past the city of Pohang and ended up in this tiny town with lots of these little hotels and old homes.  The place we stayed was way too funny!  They had fake palm trees that lit up at night, one was green, one was orange and one was red!  There was also a light up cherry blossom tree that went from red to purple, green and blue and back again!  We were in awe of the tacky awesomeness [View Full Entry]

July 25th marked our final day of classes/work before our much needed week of summer vacation. All day I was itching to get out, to get home and pack and then catch a bus to In Cheon International and get on with my trip! After school Mickey and I went home and got our selves and our stuff ready and around 10pm we headed downtown to the bus station to get tickets and leave. Unfortunately the first bus to In Cheon leaves at 1240am which meant that we had some waiting time! We sat in the terminal and watched some random [View Full Entry]

Holy Kimchi it’s been a while since I indulged you all in a good tale! My sincerest apologies to those who live vicariously through my adventures in wonderful Korea! Honestly I haven’t really been up to much since the last time I babbled about this or that…seems I’ve settled into a routine and it doesn’t seem like much of an adventure at the moment. I am now living a life over here. I shall update you on the puppies first as they were the one and only subject of my first blog. They didn’t last with us very long as both [View Full Entry]
