Sorry I haven-t written in a while. They are really making us work...like studying and taking notes! ha. I went to Rome, so the pictures will be mostly of that and last week-s class work. Went to Venice this last weekend and ohmy... Venice was truly a surprise. If you haven-t been to Venice, definitely put it on your travel list. Last week of class now, and everyone-s cramming for the final. I have a 10 question essay test for cooking, and an essay test for art history. Studying is difficult here for several reasons! Went to a Vivaldi concert in Venice, Four Seasons, and it was ethereal... being in a very old church didn-t hurt either. Tried to attend a Bartok opera at La Fenice, but it was sold out. We-re going to a jazz ... read more

Happy June 2nd! It's a holiday here. They celebrate their unification date and have parades and some stores close. Sort of like our 4th of July. We've toured a museum, been to the Leonardo exhibit of his machinery, and to the leather store (well, maybe only one of us went to the leather store). Enjoy the pics and I'll try not to sound too teachery. ... read more

Hello! I've heard it's 100° in Arkansas, so thought I'd let you know that there is a cool breeze blowing, and it's about 78°. However, this afternoon will go up to about 90°. that's when we sit and have refreshments! I've taken a few pictures, but just now getting an email card. Pics will download in a few days. Working on homework for my report on tuesday. There are lots of tourists walking around the old city, but today is a bit less crowded. The gellato is wonderful! I can't believe we don't have this stuff at home--there is no comparison to any of our ice cream. Last night after a three hour nap, we walked over to the nearest outdoor restaurant and had a great meal...mine was risotto and shrimp, bruschetta, marinated veggies, wine. We've ... read more

We arrived yesterday in Bariloche to much colder weather than in Buenos Aires! But what a great town! Looks like some towns in Colorado-- Big lake surrounded by mountains covered in snow. It's really pretty. It started raining in the afternoon, through the night and this morning, but that hasn't stopped us from enjoying the stores, restaurants and sceanic tours. A tour bus picked us up at 8:30 am this morning for a city tour. We went up to Cerro Cathedral--big mountain--and toured the ski resort, had lunch, rode the ski lift, and drove through the national park. Oh my. What scenery! And it was snowing!! And the tour ended with a tour through the chocolate factory. Bought a few samples for later... We'll post our great pictures on the next blog. All the gear we ... read more

with only 3 days left in BA, we tried to see the last things on our list. We visited the President's House--The Pink House--(Casa Rosada), The Teatro Colon- one of the 5 best opera houses in the world (NY, Paris, Vienna, Milan, and BA), and roamed through another street fair at Recoleta. We also took some more pictures in the cemetary and I can't wait to print them!! Hope you enjoy the pictures. Our side trip to El Calafate and the glacier didn't pan out, so we will head to Bariloche on Wednesday, then on the Chile by boat. BA is the longest stay of our vacation, everyplace else is for 3, 4 or 5 days at a time. We're excited to move on, but sad to say good'by to our local favorite places. Guess we'll ... read more

Gary and I got out of the apartment a little earlier this morning and had to find a place for breakfast. The common breakfast here is coffee and croisants. Not what we needed at all. In our apartment, we've been having tea and oatmeal with toast. So, we lowered our usual gourmet standards and went into the McDonalds that is in the big theater complex across from the apartment. HEAVENLY DAYS!!! The LOWER floor is "McCafe" and has hard wood floors, couches, stuffed chairs, gourmet coffees and a whole counter of pastries, cakes, and cookies. The Upstairs has the regular McDonald's, but with fresh squeezed orange juice and homemade bread. The EggMcMuffin was on fresh crusty bread, but had the same kind of egg, cheese and canadian bacon. YeeHAW! My stomach was soooooo happy!! The tables ... read more

Candy and I went to the park, where the "Tango" was going on. I gave it a try. I don´t know about the Tango, but the girl was nice!.. Today, we went to the "pink House which is the Argentine version of the "White House" but, we couldn´t go through it, because of a protest against the President was scheduled to take place. Friendly Public protests happen regularly here. It´s a part of their culture.... let´s go protest something tomorrow!....OK! Sounds good....Oh, Let´s share a "mate" and talk about it...Gary & Candy in Buenos Aires!!! ... read more
