I need to add that we are currently at Guingnicourt which is on the river Aisne but the town is not listed so can't select it for location of this blog.. Rather surprised when we woke up this morning. Our drop down bed (comes down from the ceiling to a comfy height so we can get in) is very comfy. Hadn't realised quite how comfy. Woke at 5am with my arthritic shoulder locked up so sorted it out, added a dollop of Voltarol and went back to sleep. Woke at 10am. Nudged Bob awake and he declared it was actually 11am .. as we hadn't got round to adjusting the clock time 😊. Oh well nothing pressing and we had planned a lazy day 😊. Fortunately the baguette and croissant I had ordered at campsite reception ... read more

And we were off. A leisurely start on the 31st May as only heading for just outside Dover to our Norlands CL we have stayed a couple of times recently. A pretty boring drive really as British motorways normally are. Lots of stop starts especially on the M25 and all the bunching up of traffic was caused by useless 'problems ahead' signage where, whatever problems there had been, were long gone in every case. Highways England really should get a grip ! As usual stopping for lunch at the services was a challenge and we drove into one and out again as no obvious place to park. We need a drive through spot... reversing back out is not an option with Smart Arse on the back. As usual we ended up squashed between two jugernauts in ... read more

We are almost ready to go. Had plenty of time to sort the motorhome out at a leisurely pace. Have to fill it with the food we need as I always cook our evening meal and there are a few essential ingredients I can't cook without. Eating out is reserved for lunchtimes. Clothes are always a problem to select as I have quite a lot really and some favourite garments which fight to come with me and we are more limited for space in our Chausson than in the bigger Tandy we had before. At least in June we can be reasonably sure it will be warm and that we won't need woolly jumpers and boots. The garden is tidy though everything is late so the flowers which are usually in full bloom at this point, ... read more

Not a good night’s sleep. When it rains in a motorhome the rain falls Very loudly on the roof. Our bed is halfway to the ceiling so we are nearer the noisy roof and that rain was exceedingly hard and loud and augmented by the rain then falling off the trees too. It rained all night, every minute, I am pretty sure as every time I got to sleep it woke me up again. But, glory be, at 7am when my mobile phone alarm went off, the rain miraculously stopped. I stepped outside to find the ground was astonishingly not completely soggyfied. Good to know that campsite has excellent drainage ! Up and off by 7.45 and heading for the Calais ferry port. My goodness that port is enormous. Only a standard set of booking in ... read more

Last two days of our lovely holiday have been spent making our way up France. 200ish miles a day is plenty when you’re in a motorhome and not in a flying rush and don’t want to use motorways. Motorways send me to sleep. On normal roads I sit in my high up passenger seat and snap photos of anything I fancy as we go past. Motorways though have crash barriers which badly limits phototaking so I sit back, shut my eyes and next minute Bob is shouting at me to open the window and grab a toll ticket or pay the last one 😊 😊. The French non motorways are always a far better alternative. First night stop was at Camping du Vivier des Carpes which is near to St Quentin in the Somme Valley. There ... read more

Note.. Can't tag this to Chataillon-sur-seine as that is not listed in either Burgundy or France Comte which is where it is ! Really rather sad to leave our campsite at Viileneuve on Lake Geneva. The campsite was absolutely great and suited us so very well. Almost direct access to the lake side, a restaurant and bar, motorhome service point and in such a superb location, everything we needed. Think it is probably the best located sited we have ever used. Had to take a stroll down to the water’s edge before we left. The sky still slightly tinged early morning pink and a line of pretty cloud draped across the mountain. I took some of my bird feed supplies to give to the two swans who were in the canal but they shrugged their wings ... read more

Lovely day today and all the more precious as last full day of the holiday. Still three full days but those will be travelling days with stops each night as we drive up France to Calais ready for the ferry on Saturday. We had found a boat trip round this end of the lake running every couple of hours for two hours and headed down for the one just before 1pm. Miscalculated the time and we were way too early so changed our plans a little and went to the Coop for the bits of food we needed to get us home. Then we set off to explore the medieval village of Villeneuve en route back to the campsite. Rather astonishingly we had only just realized it was there, tucked away behind the main street. Quite ... read more

Today was all about the funeral of our wonderful Queen Elizabeth ll. We couldn’t be there but we have the laptop and I made sure we had a reliable wifi signal (thanks to the kind campsite reception who supplied me with a special sign on 😊) so we could watch the broadcast by the BBC. Before it began I took a stroll along to the little marina just by the campsite. An absolutely stunning morning which surely lifted the soul. We spent nearly all the day watching the funeral. The procession to Westminster Abbey, the service there and then the procession from there to Windsor Castle. Just paused our watching while the Royal hearse was travelling to Windsor, while I nipped along to the campsite restaurant for a superb takeaway Rosti which we shared. Then we ... read more

Really loving this location on Lake Geneva. This area on the north coast, eastern side is called the Riviera and it certainly has the feel of the French Riviera with a hint of Italian Lakes 😊 It was chilly in the night. The season definitely changed with the falling first snow of the year and the night temperatures from now on will be decidedly autumnal. Daytime is a different matter. Woke to glorious unclouded blue sky. Saw that several people on the campsite were pretty well dressed for winter but I took no notice and dressed in my sunny day outfit of suntop and shorts… and I didn’t need the cardigan I took out with me just in case 😊 We whizzed along the north shore of the lake towards Montreux and then carried on to ... read more

Quite a long drive today and most of the way on the motorway. Seemed to be right across Switzerland, East to West but Switzerland is a very funny shape with lots of bits sticking out in all directions if you look at it on the map. It rained all night exactly as forecast and sure enough when we looked out at the mountains to the East, those we had just come down from, there was snow showing on some of the peaks. So glad we made the decision to come down on Thursday as we did. If we had been up the mountain in the night the way that rain was coming down in a very wintery way, I would have spent the night at the window checking if we were getting snowed on and in. ... read more
