Having chatted with the Brit (55,Northampton), he's deffo a football manager. I asked him what kept him here & he said, “the women!” He had it all, lots of money, his pension, his grown lads running his businesses, he'd sold the Porche etc etc. He'd had enough & decided that this was the life. He said it was, quote, “Korma” - how I didn't burst out laughing & pee myself I have no idea. Tick for self control....what a plonker Rodders. He chose to live in the worst place we've stayed... Uneventful drive but once again beautiful scenery all the way across. Stopped for lunch at a reat stop & found yet another Lidl in the town approaching Kavala. Found the site easily enough – it's very nice but must be heaving in the holiday season. ... read more

Went to the shower this morning & on the way back the Dutch lady was a little offish. Turns out the Dutch chap had walked into the ladies block, probably as it slightly nearer, & Cathy asked him if he had a gender problem hahaha! He sidled off... Off we go again on a short hop to Methoni Pieras via via Larissa. Despite holding out on visiting various shops on the way down I gave in & drove into a mega IKEA, major zzzzz. Cathy bought her usual stash of napkins & a few bits...90 Euros worth! Hey ho. Cathy wants to visit Jumbo on our return..& have lunch in IKEA as we're there. Please not meatballs in sweet gravy with cranberry sauce...can't wait. Stopped for lunch in a lay by when a hearse pulled up ... read more

Fitful sleep then a crew member shouted that we were entering harbour. Then I was able to use the second word of Greek I knew – chaos! The tannoy system was all but useless, people getting annoyed, not helped by 20 odd Japanese around reception with all their luggage – they must have turned up on a coach after we embarked. I think they had a following HGV for their luggage & cameras. Anyway, reversed down from where we parked, down the ramps & off...no signs, so more chaos. Onto the motorway to 1st rest area & w/c (spotless), still in darkness – it was 4.30am Greek time so we'd lost another hour & the birds started up. But then it lightened...wow, beautiful & spectacular mountains. We were at about 1000m but it was very green ... read more

Dreamt about a German man on the campsite – tall, grey skin to match his hair who strolled to the shower block as if he missed his swagger stick looking arrogant. If he had a glass eye it would be the one with humanity in it..I digress Quick visit to the supermarket & off. I'd forgotten about Italian men – they think they are a cross between Casanova & Mario Andretti. Unfortunately, Andretti couldn't .... Then Cathy cocked up the satnav again...inner peace out of the window which was handy as they had to be open due to the heatwave that had arrived, 35* Next to the road the landscape was olive trees & vines for miles then just oilve trees, some of which had trunks 5' – 6' in diameter. Saw lots of little round ... read more

Given up on the charger...still hopeful of inner peace especially as the cheapo wine had no adverse effects unless it has a delay fuse Didn't do an awful lot in the morning apart from potter about. In the afternoon we had another lovely walk on the beach which was deserted again. When we arrived backa few cars were coming in for what we discovered was a 50th birthday party in the restaurant – mucho music & dancing. The Italians from what we have seen go in for a lot of group dancing, modern day versions of the Gay Gordons... We had a look at the maps to get a handle on the next leg across Greece. We'd forgotten, but the chap next door, another friendly Dutchman, reminded us to check our Euro stocks as the ATMs ... read more

Forgot to say yesterday – a German couple in their late 60's left in their enormous 3 axle Hymer towing a Smart car; they sold up, bought the outfit & have travelled the world. They've been on the road for ….14years!! Blimey, an amazing night's sleep, woke at 9am, unheard of! Felt that we had to get up & have tea rather than in bed, really felt quite guilty though goodness knows why. Had brekkers outside again although it was overcast despite the forecast – it was hotting up today as the forecast heatwave was on it's way... Showered etc & then Peter & Janet came along to say good bye – they were off to Pompei & Naples on their 7 week trip. We were very sad saying goodbye, although they seemed quite pleased to ... read more

A lie in – again another rarity.. Lazy breakfast, messed about with a slow internet connection, had lunch then off for a 12 mile bike ride in the heat, about 23 today I think. The sunshine & rain of the past few days has brought the countryside to life with poppies in the wheat fields, really pretty. It's a festival day here & the site started filling up last night with Italian outfits & today with day visitors to the beach. Families on the site, on the beach side & on patios in the nearby houses came together for big lunches in the shade. Someone turned the cd player up & they were dancing together which was very spontaneous.. On the menu tonight is veal cooked outside on the burner & after last night an early ... read more

So, I was speaking to Peter in the shower block & asked him if he wanted us to get them anything at the supermarket. Having spoken to Janet, he suggested that they go with us & in return he would prepare us a meal – apparently Peter is part of a 'gastro' group so loves to cook. Breakfast & rearranged Billy so that Peter & Janet could sit safely with the rear seat belts & off we go for a shopping trip. We had lunch & had a wander on the beach. It started to get quite chilly but it didn't rain – we both donned long trousers & fleeces- gathered together table, chairs, fizz & wine & strolled down to P & J's place – a wonderful evening, great food, great wine & great company. ... read more

We were sent a message last night to let us know that the husband of a couple who have an apartment in our block in Cyprus died suddenly the day before – he was only about 62 if that. Very sad. Also discovered last night that the last camp site in Italy we had chosen to stay before our ferry to Greece has altered it's opening times & will be shut when we need it to be open. So, we're staying here for 7 nights & as it turns out it's stay 6 & get 7th free in the off season anyway. Up early to catch the 9.20 bus which was 15 minutes late. Into town & the bus driver dropped us off outside the shop – great service. Having used Google translate to tell the ... read more

Nope, we ate inside as it started to rain, heavily. Rained some of the night too. Tried to dry some washing but it's been light showers most of the day. We just read whilst it showered on & off all day. The owner knows the name of the bike shop & he gave us a bus timetable, so tomorrow we'll catch the bus & take the wheel in to see if they'll fix for me or at least buy some new bearings. Don't fancy going into town in Billy after previous experiences... Chatting to another couple from the UK who left home last October & are travelling around with their 2 children in a home converted van – apparently you will be fined for taking children out of term for a few days holiday but they ... read more
