Our first night in Bocas
Our first night in Bocas
@ Iguana Bar... Reggae Night (reggae seems to follow you where ever you go in Central America... and we love it)
The time came to renew our visa's so us girls (Stephanie, Melanie, Codi and I) decided Panama was the spot to hit up. We had been told by friends what a fun spot Bocas Del Toro is to visit, so that was our destination. We had a super fun and relaxing time whilst in Bocas. out of our 5 nights there only two of them were spent partying (yes quite unusual for us). I must say it does pay being female in these touristy destinations, we had free cocktails and shots coming out of our ears. And no, we weren't complaining. [View Full Entry]

Life is beautiful... Here are some updated pics of life in Montezuma! Steph and I are just loving living here. At the moment Codi, Steph's best friend from home, is also living with us for a month or so (love you girl), we are also living with 2 guys, Lucas and Jerry. We recently moved into a new pad right by the beach, it is so NICE. Clean, with aircon, TV, a balcony, beach view... and clean... the whole clean factor was a big one for Steph and I after living in the ghetto (there are pics of the old place [View Full Entry]

I visited Mexcio City on a primary school exchange... and here I was 13 and a half years later returning to reunite with my beautuiful Mexican family, Familia Fuentes. My host parents Beatriz and Victor looked just the same, still young and full of life. Victor (junior) on the other hand had grown into a very handsome young man, and Betty a beautiful young woman. Victor and I hit it off instantly. We have all been phoning and emailing for the past 13 (nearly 14) years, though over the past year Victor and I were emailing more regularly so we felt [View Full Entry]

I am in HEAVEN... I met my friend Steph (who I met in BA a few months back) in Montezuma. I must admit at first I was thinking to myself "why does she love this place so much..." though it only took me a couple of days to realise and now I am in love also. Montezuma is a small town about 7hrs by bus and ferry from San Jose. It is a bit of a hippy town with loads of locals and peops from all over selling there jewellery on the street, a beautiful jungle and stunning beach. The weather [View Full Entry]

I met Mum and Dad in Buenos Aires, Argentina and had a WONDERFUL 2 and half wks travelling with the. We spent a wk in BA where I played tour guide. We did some sight seeing but mostly wined and dined! True Nielsen style :) We spent an incredible day and night in Iguazu Falls staying at the very ritzy Sheraton Towers. What an experience that was. We were overlooking the falls whilst having an afternoon drink, stunning. We spent the day at the falls, which included a boat trip under the falls and down the river, a train trip to [View Full Entry]

WOW!!! The salt flats in Uyuni would have to be another of the most spectacular sites I have ever seen, up there with Machu Picchu. Once again, WOW!! Unfortunately we didn't have too much time in Uyuni so were only able to do a day trip to the salt flats. However this was still enough time to enjoy the beauty of miles and miles of flat salt. I had seen pictures but until you are actually there you can't fully appreciate what a magical sight it is. We had so much fun playing with different photos and experimenting with objects such [View Full Entry]

Ted, Tom and me

Tom met a girl when we were volunteering in Pisco who knew another gal who was living and working in a town called Cochabamba, about 8hours south east of La Paz. We decided it would be fun to visit her and discover a new town. We arrived around 6am and decided rather than sitting in the bus terminal for a couple of hours we'd ring Meagan and wake her :) Fortunately she didn't mind and said she was waking up anyway. We had a lil trouble finding her house but once we did were blown away. It was in the most [View Full Entry]

Wow it feels like so long ago that I was battling altitude sickness, eating llama and taking crazy pictures on the salt flats in Uyuni with Tom. But though it was a while ago I still have such fond memories. Where to start... When you catch a bus in Bolivia you have to add at least an hour to any length of time they tell you it will take, at least an hour. We learned this fast. Oh and if you are asthmatic you might want to take a mask along for the ride as the roads are usually unmade and [View Full Entry]

HODR - Voluntario

South America » Peru » Ica » Pisco
Day 1
Day 1
with Kirsty and Tom
Tom and I were both were both interested in lending a hand and participating in some voluntary work in Peru, after hearing about the devastating earthquake in August this year. Tom did a google seach and HODR (Hands On Disaster Response) came up. We read up on it and decided we should find out more. We sent off an email and that was the beginning of our HODR experience... We arrived in Pisco on Oct 11th around lunch time. As everyone there told us we timed it perfectly cos lunch was just about to be served. We weren't really sure what [View Full Entry]

Tim, how much does this remind you of Stand By Me?! :)
Tom and I met a German guy Tobi who told us about a cheap backpacker way to get to Machu Picchu, and seeing as we are trying to stick to a budget we decided to take on this idea. When Tobi told us about this trip the three of us were a few drinks in during an evening at La Casa Roja in Santiago Chile. Tobi wrote down four names for us... Santa Maria, Santa Teresa, Hydro Plant and Aguas Calientes... the rest he explained in a bit of mumbled drunken speach (no he wasn't that bad, sorry Tobz!) When Tom [View Full Entry]
