hi anna
Have been reading up on your adventures.....just too lazy to pop in my comments ;-) How wonderful that you are actually teaching and living there. Reading your blogs, I can tell it has put in another dimension or perspective to your adventures. Hope all's well with you.

Unfortunately Yvonne the house is merely a film set and apparently empty inside. The owner told us when the tv series ends they inted to turn the house into a hotel/safari lodge for guests.

I am still in Mexico, but teaching has finished. Currently working on getting a job for the new school year. :)

Now that is somewhere I would like to be now. Relaxing in that water away from this awful heat in England.

Hi Anna, great blog and sounds like you had a relaxing time in Xel-Ha. Still teaching in Mexico? What are your next travel plans? Take care, Dawn

Thanks - I think I was just lucky though. There were 3 or 4 of these fellas just hanging around outside the bird hide. :D

Pied Kingfisher

Stunning photograph - well done! I love watching these guys, but have usually found them almost impossible to photograph at all well. This one's really posed for you, and I love the atmospheric-ness of the shot.

Apparently winter is the best time to see the flamingoes, but I'm pretty sure they are there all year round.
1st June 2010

Darn!
Darn, they told us there weren't any flamingos so we didn't go when we were up there two weeks ago. Great :-( But amazing pictures, thanks Anna!

Now that is some panoramic photograph. I'm not sure about this travel writing.... maybe you ought to turn to ornithology now. Lovely detail and information. Thanks. Again beautiful photographs.

Kingfisher?

Brown-hooded Kingfisher
Hi Anna - fascinating blog! I've recently returned from Southern Africa and, with my (still) limited knowledge of ZA birds, I believe this is a Brown-hooded Kingfisher. I can't quite make out the bill, but it appears to be completely red - if the upper bill were black, it would be a Striped Kingfisher. I'm 99% sure it's not a Striped Kingfisher. Happy Travelling ...

Yeah, travel is often so much more fun in hindsight. Photographs really just don't convey heat, sickness and stress! I think I was really lucky with the weather in Merida. It wasn't great that first day but the sun came out when we were at Chichen Itza, and the next couple of days were lovely.

Sounds a bit like our trip there, only for us getting there was really easy, it was coming back to our digs that was the hassle. We left just as a massive thunderstorm let rip, water flooding the place, thunder so loud and close it rattled the buildings, lightning that left you blinded, and far more people than seats on buses. But regardless of all that, and all the "tourist-bugs" (love that term!), it was a great afternoon out.
