To be young, and doing the things you do!
Can't imagine myself doing the things you do.....complete with cub bites. Yay! I'd faint as soon as they even open their mouths. ;-) Happy for you, doing what you do. And thanks for letting us travel with you through your blogs. It's the only way for some of us. sob.

Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I really was lucky to have the animals so close. Jenna I have sent you an email with all the details on the project. South Africa is an amazing place to visit, so good luck with your future travels. Let me know if I can help with anything. :)

I have wanted to go to South Africa my entire life. Mainly for the animals. I LOVED reading this blog. Great writing, great detail. I felt like I was there with you. ...actually is there a way I could be there with you?! Thanks so much, Jenna*

I still can't decide which is my favourite cub! All to cute and chubby. Just like boisterous puppies.

Up close and personal
Those animals look like they waited all day to pose for you! Did you just write that one of those elephants bowled into the back of your knees? Amazing story about the lions too. Am not familiar with the TV series but I can imagine your excitement to take those film set pics. I would have done the same. Great adventure, Anna.

Yes Ingolfur Amarson was a Viking from Norway. The Vikings, together with Scandanavian and Celtic settlers make up the people of Iceland. It's the same in England, we're descended from Celts, Romans, Angles, Jutes, Saxons, Vikings and Normans but we're still all English.

My Norweigan heritage lives on!!
My friend's heritage is Icelandic, and I always told him Norweigan's were there first. Now I can explain to him about Ingolfur Amarson, a Norweigan who was the first settler of Iceland. We are all brothers, as long as your considered Scandihovian!!!

Awesome stuff!
Hiya!! Love ur stories from Gauteng. Been to Tiger Temple last year. Cub World seems to be much more fun!! Hope to see them all soon. Keep postin' the pics though. They are incredible :)

I think those cubs would compete with my reception class of little ones. All cute and lovely for the first 20 minutes of the day and then the characters emerge. Another lovely blog. I feel I am there with the animals. Thanks for sharing those great memories.

Well apparently there are numerous subspecies of giraffe some of which may be entirely sperate species. Authorities argue over the actual number of subspecies but they generally include Masai, Reticulated and Rothschild Giraffes each of which has differences in colouring and patterns. .... I have absolutely no idea which type I've seen on safari, nor what Gambit, Purdy and Georgina are!

As usual an amazing account of your adventures. Great photos. Did you find out if there were different giraffe types?

I too was amazed to see the squirrels at the time. It must be a paradise for them. Those beautiful palace grounds must make an excellent home for them all - hope you see them again on your next visit. :)

red squirrels at Schonbrun
I was delighted to read the 2008 blog about the red squirrels at Schonbrun. We first visited in the winter about 10 years ago and were delighted with them and their boldness. Same time of year, same conditions 5 years later and we saw none and were really worried. Must have been an aberration and am now looking forward to seeing them in the future.

'Gentle' creatures? Hmph! Tell that to my scars! :D
28th September 2009

Love the panorama!!! Still annoyed you didn't bring me back a lion cub though :(

Some babysitter you are!
I was just as excited reading your blog esp the part where the cubs started approaching you, and sitting on your lap! Hard to imagine how these "gentle" creatures can grow so big and reign king in the jungles. Have a fun time with your cubs!

Of course I took them! The only pictures in my blog I haven't taken would be the ones that have me in them! Thanks for the compliment though. :)

Some adventure!
This is definitely a must-do for me. And hey, you still got some real good pics here, even if you were seated in the middle. ;) Am curious how much this all cost you. Send me a PM when you have time, will you? Need to save up for this trip . Good read.

Hehe - sorry to be so wordy! Feel free just to look at the pictures... you think I was listening to the tour guide when these guys were standing so close to me? :D Thanks for your comments, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Finally, on my 3rd read!
Been reading this, only to be interrupted every so often. I am reading this now a third time and got to tell you that those "donkeys" in striped PJs most definitely grabbed my attention! Love this blog, and awesome pics. You inspire me!

Was there last summer!
Hi Anna, I was there few days last summer...your blog remind me of a lot of souvenirs. Have you try the sunset on the Zim sid, it's pretty impressive. Also, if you are still there, you've got to the the rafting...that's another great experience. Following your African adventure, I'm off to Congo on Wednesday...for a singl wekk without much travelling though...
