Hello again, and what a suprise that it's not a month between entries eh? The reason being is that I am on the dreaded visa run, having not planned properly and used up all my 30 day visa exemptions in 2 months, I had to leave the country and get a real proper visa that will let me stay for 2 months. And so I arrived on Ko Tao - Turtle Island, so called because it is shaped like a turtle diving toward Ko Pha Ngan 40km to the south (see I did read my guidebook!!). I spent my first day finding my feet and then going to SLEEP! I live in a bungalow, a 1 room + bathroom wooden shack on stilts, with a very hard bed (no blanket but 2 slight mouldy smelling pillows) and a small wicker shelving unit, a cold shower (all the showers here are cold) and about 73 geckos!! Oh my god I'm so rubbish at this blog thing...... but this is costing me 2baht a minute (TWO POUNDS PER HOUR! So I'm acutally in Cambodia right now, but it's been a while since I updated (as ever) so I must back fill..... So from Singapore I caught the night train to Kuala Lumpur, which is a really lovely city, so much good food I wish I had a spare stomach, like a cow! I wanted to go up to the brige that connects the famous towers, but due to a train carsh a week earlier, trains were running much slower than usual and mine was almost 3 hours late. You lucky lucky things, a second catchup in as many days!! So, as I was saying, John is doing TEFL at a "middle" (high) school in Fenghua, near Ningbo, a little further than halfway down China's east coast. We were all getting along nicely (I swear, I've never had such stomach pains from laughing) so we decided to follow him a little bit longer and try and tech his students the difference between HIS accent and OUR (correct :-P) accent. So I'm sitting in the hostel waiting to take a "hard seat" on a train to Xi'an (Terracotta Army!). This is the lowest class available - it's basically just a seat, for 12 hours. Well, after 9 days continuous train travel, 12 hours is a mere spit in the ocean (spitting being the operative word - we are in Beijing after all - yeuch!!) Anyhow so our almost-week has zoomed past. Wow......... so we've arrived... To be honest I couldn't tell you how many kilometres I've travelled without checking but I spent 8 straight nights on trains and I didn't have a real shower for all that time so perhaps the actual mileage doesn't count for as much as you'd think.........
