Hi guys! I am officially reviving the travel blog! Only, this time it will just be me, Amy, as Laura and I have finally parted ways. Laura is still beavering away in Sydney as she has travelled in Aus before, so I am out on my own now! I left Sydney on Tuesday evening and had a lovely little sending off committee! The bus was 13 hours to Byron Bay and I managed to sleep a fair bit. I spent the first afternoon exploring the amazing hostel and Byron itself. I am staying at the Art Factory which is just outside [View Full Entry]

Sydney update

Oceania » Australia » New South Wales » Sydney » Coogee
Just a brief update to let you all know that Laura and I are living in a lovely flat in Coogee and both temping at the Government. We've been pretty busy since we got here, we've been to see MacBeth at the Opera House, Swan Lake (with the male swans), had fish and chips at Doyle's, been to the races, walked, eaten, drank and partied quite a bit and enjoyed the beach while the weather lasts! I will revive the blog when I set off round Aus (on my own sniff) in about 4 weeks! Ames x [View Full Entry]

Hi all, sorry its been so long! We arrived into Queenstown in the afternoon and took the very steep cable car up to the home of 'The Ledge' Bungy. This one was slightly different in that the harness was round the waist so you could take a running jump off the edge. We bravely watched our friend Rob do it and then took in the lovely views before heading down for a night out. The next day was sunny so a perfect day to recover by the banks of the Lake after sending the rest of our group off to do [View Full Entry]

EXTREME!!!

Oceania » New Zealand » South Island » Queenstown
It's all about the extreme here in New Zealand you know, and Queenstown is where it's all happening! On our drive there we stopped at a little place called the AJ Hacket bungy jump. It was the first commercial bungy jump in the world and it is over a beautiful blue river from a bridge. Quite on the spur of the moment, Sophie (a girl on our bus) and I (Amy) decided to do it tandem! Sophie, bless, was terrified which was good because I was too busy trying to calm her down that I forgot to get too scared [View Full Entry]

Laura and I left the girls behind and headed onto Wanaka the next day. Wanaka is a really cute little holiday town that is a ski resort during the winter and a lakeside holiday destination in the summer. In true South Island style, it was raining! A new frind of ours cooked us a lovely dinner and then a group of us headed onto the local cinema. It was so cool, instead of uncomfortable cinema flip down chairs, there were actual sofas, bean bags and even a car so you could pretend you were at the drive in! We watched [View Full Entry]

We arrived to Franz Josef to the welcoming treat of rain, it rains here 264 days of the year! Had a easy day recovering from the Poo pub party and drank tea and ate copious amounts of chocolate with our girly friends! The next day was the hike on the glacier. It was a 6 hour trip which started with the task of suiting us up in boots, crampons, water prrof trousers and jackets, hats, socks, gloves etc! But miracles of miracles, it wasn't raining! Huirrah! The hike starts with a lot of steps that have been carved into the [View Full Entry]

Hello again all! Time for a little update! After the delights of Nelson and Abel Tasmin National Park, we headed to Westport, which apart from the lovely hostel we stayed in, really had no delights what so ever so I won't write about it! The next day however was a day of legends amongst anyone who has done the kiwi experience, the Poo Pub Party. It basically involves staying at a pub in the middle of nowhere by lake Maniapuha and having the biggest party ever, in fancy dress! We stopped at a few shops to help us with our [View Full Entry]

After Wellington, our time in the North Island was up. we got the ferry over to Picton and the weather was good so it only took three hours. We headed straight from the ferry terminal to a winery where we tried three whites, some spirits, dressings and oils so a good visit!! As the weather was great, our driver took us to a river so we could have a swim and a jump off the surrounding rocks. it was so good to feel the sun again but with burn time being 12 minutes, we lathered the factor 30 on (a bit [View Full Entry]

The Capital

Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Wellington
Hi all! After our adrenaline fuelled stay in Taupo we spent a very chilled night in a lodge in the middle of nowhere called River Valley. It was gorgeous and definitely somewhere I would consider going back to. The dorms were one giant bunk bed so we got to know our fellow bus-mates even better! We managed an extreme hike, I'm not sure if we went the wrong way but we ended up scrambling down an almost vertical hill at the end! Next was New Zealand's capital, Wellington. It's not as big as Auckland but has a much nicer feel [View Full Entry]
