Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich July 24th 2010

It's 6:16 on a rainy saturday morning. I'm on my way back to Amsterdam. It was an early morrning to catch the train at 5:44am and will be a late night rolling into Amsterdam at 11:02pm. That's correct....I will be in transit today for a total of over 17 hours....that's almost twice as long as my flight from Vancouver! If you're thinking there's gotta be a better way to do it....you're correct. The options were a 135 euro fast train, or a 200 euro flight. I bit the bullet and went for the long day costing me only 71 euros. It's going to be a long one though!! Hopefully my 2 paperback novels, 3 classic fiction ebooks i downloaded for free, ipod, and computer can help me get through this evil day. Munich. Second time around ... read more

Europe » Austria » Salzburg » Bad Gastein July 21st 2010

Another 3 nights have been and gone! Bad gastein was great!! It's a really small town but I filled my time by going out, and some time just hanging around in my room enjoying the space to myself!! The town is very hilly because it's tucked in between some mountains high up and then goes all the way down to where the vally is. There is a big river/waterfall going right through the middle of town which was really cool. There's a hiking trail that follows the river all the way down to the valley, so i went down there. Then realized that it was down a long ways from the town. It was a greulling hike back up! hahah There are also thermal springs and thermal baths everywhere you go! They even had a thermal ... read more

Europe » Austria » Vienna » Vienna July 18th 2010

Guten tag! It's nice going to countries that speak the same language haha, that way you don't have to keep learning the langueage! Then again, it's really easy to speak english and most people will speak it back to you. Kind of a cop out! So here I am, on the road again. Off to Bad Gastein! But first....Vienna. My time there went incredibly fast! I only had 3 nights there, and the first night I just stayed in feeling kinda homesick and not in the mood to socialize or go out to find dinner. So I had a long facebook chat session with Adam bomb (much needed) and called it an early night. The next day at breakfest I started talking to a guy and a girl from florida who were travelling together and they ... read more

Europe » Czech Republic » Prague July 15th 2010

Hello from yet another train! Today I'm heading to Vienna, Austria. The 4 nights i had in prague went so fast it's hard to believe i'm already moving on! Prague is so beautiful, and such a huge city but i pretty much did my exploring just in the old town. The first night i role in, there is a bbq going on at the hostel so i hung around and met people there, pretty much just taking it easy after the travel day and a night of little sleep before that. You can tell the hostel and events are planned by guys because the bbq included 2 beers, a big chicken thigh, a huge sausage, and a hamburger. mmmmm. This was the same night that the final round of the world cup was on, so we ... read more

Europe » Germany » Berlin » Berlin July 11th 2010

Berlin, what an incredible city. There is so much culture there because of it's history and the berlin wall. We started out in the city by watching the germany vs spain match in the world cup. We didn't just go to any bar to watch it, instead we headed down to the city center where they had screen set up and thousands of fans dressed up and watching the game in the streets. They take 'football' veerryyy seriously over here! There was a spanish guy in our hostel who searched a spanish bar just so he could go there and be able to cheer for spain without worrying about germany fans assaulting him! Some other people from our hostel had some germany paint sticks with the colors of their flag so we got decked out in ... read more

Europe » Germany » Bavaria » Munich July 7th 2010

From beer halls to concetration camps, Munich's history is like no other in Europe! After our vacation time in Greece, switching over to the cultural aspect was great. As some of you will know, Germany is doing extremely well in the world cup right now. When we landed in Munich, we exited the airport to a HUGE crowd of people infront of a giant tv screen watching the game in which germany was 1 goal up on argentina. The crowd was going wild! Even some people we were talking to on the train said that it was totally unexpected that they should beat argentina, but they ended up doing it and i think are in the quarter finals now. there is actually a game on later today, which might be over by the time this is ... read more

Europe » Greece » South Aegean » Santorini July 3rd 2010

It was supposed to be an early start the morning we caught our ferry from Athens to Ios. Instead of waking up with time to spare, Alyx's alarm didn't go off and she was sick (yet again) with not much energy for a fast walk to the metro station about 15min away. So, we woke up an hour late and had to bust our asses to get to the port in order to not miss the ferry! they wait for no one!! Long story short we overshot the metro station and took a cab. We totally lucked out and got one of the only honest cab drivers left in all of Athens, so the charge to the port was only 8 euro after he took us to the wrong one and we walked on the ferry pretty ... read more

Europe » Greece » Attica » Athens June 24th 2010

Greeting from the sea. Again, we're sitting on a ferrry heading to Athens for the night. Actually the ferry is only to igomenitsa then we're on an overnight but to Athens, where we will be arriving at a questionable 5:30 in the morning....should be interesting! We're thinking an early hike up to the Acropolis, a very early hike! Now the pink palace, where shall I begin....This place is an alocoholic's paradise. We are not alcoholics haha, but did partake in the festivitives for a few of the nights wer were there. But a girls gotta take a night off every so often! There was a lot of lounging on the beach and working on the tan, followed by afternoon naps and then dancing at night! They have their own night club so everything you could need ... read more

Europe » Greece » Ionian Islands » Corfu June 18th 2010

What a whirlwind the last few days have been! Our time in Rome went extremely fast!! in 3 and a half days we did 3 tours with a tour group and did LOTS of walking. Our calf muscles look amazing! haha So as I said, we did 3 tours. The reason for this is that we wanted to go on a tour of vatican city which included entrance, skipped the 2 hour line and gave us a complete guidd tour lasting 3 hours. It was pretty funny when we showed up at the meeting point and there were 2 guys from calgarywe had met at our hostel in Nice!! And actually we were booked on all 3 tours at the same time! So we spent a lot of time with them after the tours just having ... read more
