Place Names I know exactly what you mean, Ake. It only dawned on me a couple of years ago that the name "Newcastle" came from the fact that when it was named, the English had just built a "new castle" there, lol...!
Chainsaw Sculptures and Wolf Island These are very interesting. I saw quite a few on recent travels in Scotland and Ireland. The name "Wolf Island" also sounds cool - great that you were able to visit places you weren't able to last time.
On the name "Wolf Island" A funny thing about the name "Wolf Island". The word meaning "Wolf" in the name is an older way to name the animal. I knew of the meaning, but when I refered to the animal I mostly used the more modern name for it. The name of the island I've heard many times in my life. To me that's the name of the island. Just like you probably see "Hull" as a name of a town and something totally unrelated to the bottom of a boat. I didn't make the connection of the name "Wolf Island" to the animal wolf until I wrote that blog. So when I took the photo of the wolf statue (this is embarrassing) I had not made the connection yet. Sometimes I am very slow on catching up on the simplest things... /Ake
We agree completely These small quirky museums are often the best. Thanks for taking us along. We visited a barbed wire museum in Texas and it was amazing. Eager to read about the one you plan to go to next year. My uncle was an executive at Texaco so it was fun looking at these items. The museum of Death & the Museum of Broken Relationships are worth visiting in LA. There is a very cool Pez museum in Burlingame, CA. Happy travels.
Those museums sound interesting I think we already knew of one of those museums. The others are new to us. I have copied links to them and if we are around any of them we'll try to schedule a visit. /Ake
Petrol museum Cool!! I too enjoy these types of museums. There’s a flour museum in Minneapolis and a sex museum in Shanghai. Both are fascinating! Thanks for sharing the petrol museum.
We love hearing of other theme museums Thank you for the recommendations on other theme museums. I will look them up on internet and we might try to visit them one day. /Ake
Beautiful Sweden! Wow! There are some seriously impressive places and photos here Ake, Northern Sweden looks wild and stunning! An inspiring read, the hiking and waterfalls look amazing ?
Not the most inspiring blog post I think That blog post was perhaps less inspiring than some of the others we've written. We had lots of fun those days, but it doesn't really come out in the photos. We are happy that you enjoyed reading it anyway and thanks for telling us. /Ake
On travelling in north Sweden Two things worth knowing about traveling in north Sweden are:
1 You need a car. Without it you can pretty much only visit the major towns and cities.
2 The distances between places are most often greater than in south. You have to be prepared for driving for hours.

Rambo and a Former Prison Some really interesting places here Ake. I imagine staying in the former prison was quite something - it looks really nice and boutique now! And you just have to visit the village of Rambo when you're in the area, you can't not!
I really enjoyed the water level marker I have studied nature science so the water level marker in Ratan was of special interest for me. A very simple way to show 270 years of post-glacial rebound. /Ake
Swedish Churches Some great pics of Swedish churches, Ake. Loved this one and the Rococo style. I have posted some of your pics in 'Cathedrals, grand churches, mosques and places of worship' thread in the Photography Forum. Check 'em out.
Thank you for adding photos to the forum Again, thank you for adding photos to the forum. I greatly appreciate it. Unfortunately there are several interesting photo forums that are closed and where we can't add more pics. That's a pity, but I guess there is a good reason for it. /Ake
Cheese Slicers and Tall Wooden Buildings Wow, you have certainly uncovered some unknown places and travel information in Northern Sweden! Lots of fun places and interesting stories here - I particularly love the five villages named after a Swedish nursery rhyme! ?
Five villages I wish we had had someone with local knowledge with us that day because we both got lost and we are sure that there were more left of those villages than we actually found. But on our own without proper guidance we came to point where it just wasn't worth keep looking.

The joys of Sweden Dave and I are thinking about visiting Finland, Sweden and Norway next summer..... we are beginning to think about it. You've elevated our interest in Sweden. It seems to have much to offer.
On Norway and Finland We have published quite a few blogs on Sweden over the years. Norway we have not travelled so much in. But we have produced at five blog entries that you might be interested in reading. Finland I fear that we haven't written anything about even though we'll been to Helsinki several times and we have also visited Porvo once. I'll happily assist you with recommendations on where to go and what to see. /Ake
We are Emma Holmbro and Ake Dahllof. We live in Stockholm, Sweden.
We have travelled more or less regularly since the mid 1990-ies and it seems like the more we travel the more difficult it is to decide where to go next. Not because we are running out of places to visit but because we find more places we want to go to faster than we manage to travel to them.
Some of the things from our travel bucket list we have ticked off since we started this blog in 2006 are
