Got here yesterday after flying to Lima from Ayacucho then another flight here. (CLICK ON PHOTOS FOR BIGGER IMAGE.) Staying at El Grial, a tiny place in the San Blas arts quarters. Very friendly, relaxed and quiet, on what amounts to a cul de sac but substantially uphill from Plaza de Armas. Easy 10-15 min walk down, taxi rides ($1) back up until a few days' acclimation. .Slept most of afternoon after getting up at 4.30 a.m. for plane, and to help with altitude, 11,000 feet, 2,000 higher than Ayacucho. Got out to Plaza at 4.30 p.m.---glorious sun on the cathedral, Jesuit compound, and Plaza fountain. In this setting, with the high mountains around, and relatively little traffic on the plaza, it is as spectacular as any city plaza I've ever seen. Unfortunately, the pleasure is
