My name is Dora Ramirez and I'm 18 years old. I was born In Chicago and have grown up in Bridgeport close to my family. My family is originally from Guatemala and Mexico. I have visited both Guatemala and Mexico when I was younger. I love to travel! I remember the first time I traveled because I saw so many new things. I am currently a senior enrolled at UIC College Prep High School. I think it is important to study World History this year because I want to learn about different cultures and their traditions. Also learn things I could have never imagined. I can't wait to see what this journey has in store for me and my class mates!

The Amnesty International is an organization where “justice, freedom, truth and dignity”, hence, human rights are protected. The organization works to educate people about the problems so others can help. Their mission is to create a safer world for everyone. The organization began when there was an injustice done to a group of students for raising their glass to freedom. The organization began to work against these kinds of injustices. They work through national online networks, or with high school, college or community groups. This group has been quite successful, for they have freed ten thousand prisoners of conscience from unjust detention, provided global support, abolished death penalty, and plenty more. This organization relates to human rights as the people fight to protect people and want to assure people receive eq... read more

During college I want to join a club or activity that involves photography, something involving culture, and stay fit. I would enjoy these things because I have always been interested in photography but have not take time to focus on it. I love to learn about different culture and traditions people have. I have learned that staying fit is important, hence, I want to maintain an appropriate size and diet for my age and body. I didn't find specific names but I saw a couple of clubs involving culture. I did not see any involving photography. I know there are many ways to stay fit such as joining a sport of some sort; however, I plan to workout on my own or with a buddy. I want to do these things because I know it is ... read more

This spring break has been the best one thus far! One of my adventures was going to soccer practice, rather than staying home, I did something productive. Also I rode my bike to many places; such as, Pilsen, many peoples homes, to the beach, to parks, and just to take a stroll, for it was quite relaxing. During this break it was my mothers birthday so I made her a cake and a collage of family pictures. I Decided to change the flavor of the cake we usually have and made a chocolate chesse cake for my mother. It was great celebrating another year of my mothers life. Another adventure was when I made breakfast for myself and someone to whom i am very close. During this time we were able to converse about various things ... read more

I believe in relationships. Over time relationships can transform from an outstanding to a dreadful bond. There are various types of relationships: family, friends, romance, school, church, or even with an object. A relationship can start between a person and object when developing a strong bond while keeping memories associated with them. Individuals share a unique relationship with those who inspire and motivate our lives. Many times a certain relationship can hurt others. As I’ve matured in life I have noticed how a relationship can be destroyed or become stronger. It is unfortunate that humans are unwilling to forgive and choose to hold grudges. A tough thing about life is accepting the fact of losing or gaining a new relationship. During my childhood development I became friends with a ... read more

1. According to this article, how is modern slavery different from earlier forms of slavery throughout history? Now a days we don't see people working like the old slave working in the fields, auctions, slave cabins, etc, but slaves are still around today. In today's society the people who are enslaved are the ones forced to work at a job they do not like. The examples they gave in the article are in the commercial sex trade, on farms, in homes, and in factories. These jobs consist of little pay and constant violance. 2. Why does this movement against human sex trafficking connect to the legacy of President Lincoln? President Lincoln was the one who passed the mancipation Proclamation that freed slave; hence, this movement is against human sex trafficking and connects to Lincoln because they ... read more
