Shell, Gav & Mia Carroll

Finally after another long countdown, the three of us, as a family, are heading back to Nepal!

This year we'll be trekking to the Annapurna Base Camp. Gav and I have trekked this route before however, it will be Mia's first time on this path, but her 2nd Nepal trek after doing the Poon Hill trek a couple of years ago.

Thanks to our gorgeous friends, we'll also be visiting a couple of children's homes to drop off great quality 2nd hand clothing to help the less fortunate kids. We can't wait to meet them - it's our planned highlight of this trip! The Nepalese are amazing people and have so much gratitude - a real lesson for us who live in such a material world...

Day 2 - Sunday 11th September Weather – hot, sunny (about 33c) dry Up this morning about 9am to greet our first morning in Malaysia! We started off with a plate of beautiful, fresh fruit that Janet had bought for us (thanks Janet!) before heading off for breakfast at Syed Bistro – a local South Indian place – for roti canai (roti bread and curry to dip it in) and tea tarik (pulled tea). For six serves of roti between the four of us (one of them being milo roti) and our drinks, the total cost came to a huge RM 17.60 (AUD$6!) Although we were only having roti, all the other food on display looked amazing, including their specialty of briyani (rice) with a whole lamb shank in it – one day I’ll have to ... read more

Saturday 10th September, 2016 We began our journey to Malaysia by leaving a cold and wet Melbourne at 6.45am. We sadly said goodbye to Mango at home as we couldn’t take him in the car with us to the airport as Gav was dropping us off on the way to work. It was very hard to leave him as we know he won’t understand where we’ve gone or that we’ll be away so long etc! The airport check-in and customs etc went very quickly and smoothly – I’m sure this gets better each year that we travel! The flight itself seemed very quick even though it was close to 9 hours. It was full of kids but they weren’t any trouble at all – actually quite entertaining! We watched a couple of movies and before we ... read more

Friday, October 17th A pretty quiet day today. After another lovely sleep in, we headed out just around the corner to 'Mr & Mrs Mohgans Super Crispy Roti Prata' for the perfect breakfast - fresh , crispy roti with fish curry and ikan bilis (anchovy) sambal! Yum! Even Mia loved it. This was on our list of places to eat and did not disapppoint... The day was a bit wet so we just chilled out and explored the closest shopping plaza - 'I12'. Not my usual thing to do, and not that exciting but quite relaxing. I managed to talk Mia into going to the movies with me that afternoon to see 'The Maze Runner'. I'd literally just finished reading it and as it was showing at I12, why not? Mia really wasn't keen but she ... read more
