Thank goodness for air con! Karen and I have had our room cooled down to iceberg conditions the last couple of days because it has been super hot out.
Internet was super duper slow yesterday so I didn't bother making an entry into my blog. Instead I spent the afternoon laughing up a storm as Karen wrote a song in my honour. A little evidence that the two of us were a bit bored! lol Who would of thought singing about shoe bags, calamine lotion and knitting could be so funny??? The haiku just kept coming to me this morning lying in bed that I have not one but two in regards to yesterday afternoon's silliness.
Lazy afternoon

Yesterday was the last day of volunteering for me here in Tam Ky. The morning was spent at the Baby Orphanage. On the one hand it was really nice to see the kids one last time but on the other hand it was pretty sad since they are too young to understand that it was going to be our last time
Surprise!
Claire cutting the birthday cake that Mrs. Hanh made..topped with a rat! It was super yummy! there. For some reason the kids seemed a little more "aggressive" than usual in the sense that they were fighting about everything and there were way more tears going around than normal. It's frustrating not being able to comfort them because you don't know the language and be able to ask them what is the matter etc. I spent some time with the cutie pie Heu. I think she was trying to teach me some Vietnamese because when I was feeding her she kept on pointing to things and saying what they were in Vietnamese and she wanted me to repeat what it was she was saying. There will be quite a few of the kids at the Baby Orphanage that I will miss seeing...
Then yesterday evening was the fruit party at the Home of Affection. I didn't realize how many kids there are at the Home of Affection. It's not until you see all of them together that you get a feel for the amount of kids living there. I only had four classes at the Home of Affection (once a week) but think there will be a few kids that I will wonder about..how they are
Some of Claire's guests.
Left to Right; Back to Front: Bonnie, Claire, Bandym, Karen, Yalvanni, Martin, Bridget, Hannah, Sarah. doing etc.
Oh yes, on Thursday night we had a little surprise 21st Birthday party for Claire. Her birthday actually isn't until the 13th of February but we'll all have left and she'll be back here in Tam Ky with strangers to celebrate her 21st. Anyway, we figured we have some time after dinner to get everything ready while Claire was off teaching her evening class. Doh! Her class is cancelled. Thank goodness Sarah was quick thinking and blurts out that we (Claire, Sarah and I) should get together for coffee to go over planning for Ha Noi. Phew! Great plan. So we're walking back from coffee and on the way back you are able to see the kitchen from the street. I think.."Don't look right Claire. Don't look right." Of course what does she do? Looks right! You couldn't really see much and she didn't make any comment about what was going on back at home. Then we round the corner and I see someone running..obviously the look out! Then we pass by Mr. Binh, the security guard's room and see Mr. Binh, Mr. Hoa and Dong sitting there. Still no comment from Claire. Then we get upstairs
and Claire head's towards the kitchen...SURPRISE! She suspected nothing up until the last minute...Mrs. Hanh made a super delish birthday cake. It was funny when Mrs. Hanh was trying to ask us what animal in the Asian Zodiac Claire was. Karen drew a pretty good picture of a rat but Mrs. Hanh didn't know what it was we were trying to tell her. Then I see our rat friend run by and point outside..Bing! Mrs. Hanh got what it was we were talking about. Just to be sure our rat friend ran back the other way. LOL It was a fun evening. Birthday Party Vietnamese style!
Then tonight the six of us have offered to make dinner for the cooks. We started prepping the food after lunch..should be done by 6PM tonight. LOL There will be two curries..one green curry and one tomato based curry, potato salad, banana & coconut salad, a tomato relish and some other stuff. It should be good. I just hope we have enough dishes and cutlery for everyone since it would not look good to be eating in shifts!
This morning I spent doing my laundry and packing up my stuff. Things are
getting in order...
Starting to pack up.
Good byes, photos and some laughs.
Farewell to Tam Ky...
Thank goodness I haven't accumulated too much "crap" so far on my travels because my bag is pretty stuffed although I am convinced I can get it all into my two back packs still. Could possibly be because I have one box almost ready to mail home. 😊
Well, I shouldn't write too much longer since I should head back to see what else needs to be done for tonight's dinner...
Hugs and stuff,
Bonster
