I had an exciting weekend here in Tam Ky. Yesterday at Phu Ninh Lake..one of Vietnam's best kept secrets! Then from there it was just a really fun-filled weekend.
Let's see, during dinner we watched “50 First Dates” again. Hannah is really getting to know the entire script for this movie! We then headed down to the internet. Not sure where Mr. Binh the security guard was but the gate was locked so we had to jump the fence to get out. Good to know we had been locked up nice and secure. Sarah, Hannah and I just hung outside with the internet boy..I think someone has a crush but I can't say. HAHA
Then it was to the corner for Karen to enjoy her beer and for the lot of us to play some cards. "Oh, look at the time..almost 10PM" Let's head on over to that coffee shop we went to before. I think they said it's happening after 10PM. We get there around 9:45 and it is pretty quiet. We want to sit upstairs again..we look up. Looks awfully dark up there! But they proceed to let us go upstairs and open up all the lights.
Mrs. Hanh and Hannah the Giant
Outside Mrs. Hanh's house..Mr. Hoa lives there too! Hannah and I order a couple of beverages. Claire comes back from the WC and thinks they were trying to tell her that they are closing up. So that explains the lack of customers in this place!
We continue to sit there and enjoy some of those oh so hard to crack open red seeds. Not quite sure what they are. I had one of the best seats in the house because I could just throw the seeds over the balcony. Anyway, we had some good facial exercises as Sarah and Hannah like to put it from just about non-stop laughing..what's new? haha
Then it was back to the guesthouse..it's not even 11 yet. So Hannah, Sarah and I decide to head off on our bikes for a night ride around Tam Ky to try and figure out what it is everyone does on a Saturday night in Tam Ky. From the looks of it, it looks like everyone goes out for something to eat.
Then it was back home for our usual before bedtime ritual of watching a DVD and do a little knitting. So today's haiku will sum up Saturday nights excitement...
Wild and
Bonnie and Karen having a snack break.
Kem Flan..sort of like creme caramel but cold. Super yummy. Also indulged in a Sua Chua Vinamilk (frozen vanilla yogurt). wacky night.
Play cards, knitting and coffee.
New night bike members.
Today started out as another lazy Sunday for me. Most of the morning I just hung out in my room chatting with Karen as I started to go through my stuff in anticipation of packing up later this week. Don't know why I had 5 pairs of earplugs packed because I can basically sleep through just about anything. Perhaps a pair will come in handy when I'm on the train.
Then Sarah and I went on a little bike trek to the photo shop to get some reprints made before lunch time. Yep, just another exciting Sunday.
Well it picked up from there because at 1PM Mrs. Han invited us over to her house. It was nice to see where our cooks live. Mr. Hoa was outside and was excited to see us. While we were there he was nice enough to pump up our bike tires! Then Mrs. Han took us for a little bike ride to the dessert store to get what else but some dessert. Kem Flan is so yummy! Sort of like cold creme caramel. Also had some frozen vanilla yoghurt (sua
chua)..delish too!
Before we knew it, it was time to go to the football (soccer) game. Our football "friends" Benin (or whatever his name is!) and Marty gave us four free tickets to see the game and we got to sit in the "VIP" type section. Mr. Hoa joined us for the game. Just before entering the stadium with Mr. Hoa in the front of the line with the tickets I felt like the five of us were Mr. Hoa's posse. Unfortunately Quang Nam (that's the province that Tam Ky is situated) lost the game 2-0. Oh well. It was still an experience to see a football game. There sure were a lot of "injuries" during the game. They'd spray this mysterious spray on the "injured" area and most of the time the injury would be "miraculously" healed in minutes. We’re still trying to figure out what that stuff is..Hannah said that it is deoderant so of course everytime after that I had to make some comment about the deoderant having to come out yet again. By the end of the game though I think I had if figured out, the spray is actually a grass stain remover! haha
Well, as you have probably figured out by now I don't have all that much to report from Vietnam. 😊
Once again, thanks for all the email messages..keep them coming!
Love,
Bonnie
