Back onto the minivan, we left Lak Sao & headed to the Vietnamese border crossing, which took over an hour - this apparently is not unusual... The officials process locals first, so the foreigners passports just get shuffled to the bottom of the pack whenever more Vietnamese arrive. Not surprisingly, the two United States citizens were processed dead last - I suppose it's payback for the so-called US/Vietnamese war 30 years ago. We continued North along highway one, arriving in Hanoi just after dark. The group went out for a local dinner, but Leah (my roomie) & I were tired & opted for home delivered pizza, garlic bread & coke - an excellent decision as the pizza was great!
