BEACH BUMS IN THAILAND

Hi readers

We were picked up by taxi at 6 am and taken to Hanoi airport for a flight to Bangkok. We arrived and got a taxi to the Kho San Road (backpacker land). We managed to find a lovely room for 800 baht (16 quid) - very basic with air con, tv and shower room - but so very clean. On the floor above us was a huge rooftop swimming pool where we spent most the next day. Kho San was very vibrant, lots of bars, music, markets and westerners having dreadlocks sewn into their hair - weird! Bought a few bits, had a few beers and ate. We really enjoyed staying there as although we have been to Bangkok before had not visted this area. Both Georgina and Jaymes suggested that we visit just for the experience. We flew into Ko Samui yesterday afternoon and taxied to our seaview wooden bungalow which is good. Last night we had a drink in an Arabian bar - squatting on cushions around fishtank coffee tables and various people puffing on Hubbly bubblies - then on to eat at a Thai Restaurant - food excellent with very friendly proprietor. There appears to be a lot of Germans staying here and running local businesses. Went back to our complex for a last drink and played pool with two Aussies and Thai girls. This morning had breakfast back at the Arabian bar - great!

Sorry this is not as interesting as usual! But I am sure something will turn up. Just going on the beach with beautiful blue sea - temp around 86 degrees - very hard this travelling lark.

Did anyone read a couple of comments by a Vietnamese guy and another couple to DEATH ON THE ROADS - very interesting. We didn't go to Luang Prabang (Laos) or Chiang Mai because of smoke and pollution from all the fires not because we thought we were going to be burned. If anyone else (friends etc) would like to comment please feel free to do so - would be nice to hear from you. More photos next time we can get a CD burned!
