The rain was coming down steadily as we left the Khao Sok jungle in a minivan and headed to Krabi, 2 ½ hours away. We were worried about Phoebe , who’d come down with a fever, which of course was a big concern when we were about to head to an island 2 hours from the mainland. After much deliberation and thankfully some help from one of the guys at the Krabi travel agency, I decided to take Phoebe to a private hospital in Krabi to get her checked out before taking the boat to Koh Phi Phi. She was given a simple blood test and the result showed no malaria or dengue fever, which had been our two main concerns. The doctor said there were signs of an infection that could be treated with antibiotics which of course we already had with us in our trusty medical kit, so with plenty of paracetamol in tow we decided we’d continue on our journey to Koh Phi Phi. The boat dropped us at Tonsai pier where we were then collected and taken by longtail boat to Paradise Pearl Bungalows on Hat Yao (Long Beach). Paradise is really the only way to describe

this place. White sand, blue sky and amazing turquoise water framed by the surrounding steep green mountainous islands across the bay. It’s a simple formula but absolutely mesmerizing.
Our bungalow is about 2 strides from the beach and of course faces the incredible view of the water and islands beyond. The resort is nicely kept and has frangipani lined pathways, plenty of deck chairs along the sand, and a really great restaurant perched right on the beach under the casuarina trees. For the first couple of days it was hard to relax and enjoy it while Phoebe was unwell…but she has turned the corner now and is back to her happy, singing self. It was reassuring being able to speak to the nurse at our travel insurance company…she made us feel like we were doing all the right things. As a few of you know Jasper celebrated his 9th birthday yesterday…he had a great day but unfortunately has come down with the same bug so we will ride that out as well. It’s actually not that bad because the kids can have an early swim to cool down, then rest in the aircon bungalow for most of the day, while still being able to see the lovely view and be intermittently fed antibiotics, water and Panadol from Nurse Mum. The nurse rings us every day to check on everything as well, so we’re trying not to worry too much. We only have another 2 nights to enjoy this beautiful place, so will try to make the most of it while getting the kids back on their feet. If Jasper’s feeling up to it we’re going snorkelling tomorrow, so will let you know soon how that goes…

On the way to Krabi. Apparently monkeys are used to pick coconuts in the local plantations.
