After hopping on a local bus at Surat Thani we headed west through the familiar landscape of Southern Thailand...lush vegetation, coconut palms, rubber plantations and typical busy townships. After two hours the scenery became more mountainous and farms gave way to jungle as we arrived at Khao Sok National Park. This huge protected preserve is part of the world's oldest rainforest and the damp, oozing jungle is towered over by incredible soaring karst formations. We're staying at a place called 'Our Jungle House' where we have our own treehouse perched in the forest overlooking the dense vegetation and flowing river below. The treehouse is pretty rustic but comfortable and thankfully has good mosquito nets! This morning we set off after breakfast and headed to the National Park Headquarters where we picked up a map and started our trek into the jungle. We walked through amazing scenery for about 4 kilometres until we finally reached a beautiful swimming hole and waterfall. We cooled off in the clear fresh water and contemplated the return trek. Phoebe's little legs had done well up until this point but they were close to meltdown so were all happy when I spotted a gang of National Park workers about to head back to HQ in a 4WD truck...and they were happy for us to hitch a ride! I know it’s not like us to take the easy option but we all enjoyed the bumpy ride back along the muddy track…and had a chance to recall all the animals we’d seen that day….

1. Cat
2. Dead Snake
3. Giant cricket
4. Rooster
5. Giant ant
6. Freshwater fish
7. Family of wild monkeys
8. Lizard
9. Dragonfly
10. Butterflies
11. Green tree frog
