Sorry this blog is so late, its been a crazy few days!! Me and Nat ended up having the most amazing time in Koh Phangan, despite my foot being poorly. I was told by the clinic not to get my foot wet, dirty or to walk on it too much. Unfortunately I'm not very good at following advice and chilling out, I just can't sit still for very long, so I'm afraid I ended up doing all 3 things I wasn't supposed to (sorry mum!!). I'd already gotten it wet at Songkran and dirty walking along the beach, so I figured I may as well not miss out on any of the parties - my foot would have plenty of time to heal in Koh Samui and when I come back to Koh Phangan after the wedding.
The partying started when Lisa arrived. Me and Nat went over to Koh Samui to meet her at the airport as she was flying in from Bangkok. The boat ride across was really pretty as the sun was shining, so the water was turquoise and sparkling. It was nice to do the trip in the daytime after arriving in the dark ourselves. Koh
Samui airport is very confusing and has 3 different sections, but we managed to get a lift to the right area in the end. After meeting Lisa and getting back to Koh Phangan we decided to go into Haad Rin, the party area and show Lisa the nightlife on the beach where they hold the full moon party. I wasn't drinking as I was on antibiotics, but still managed to stay up until 4am listening to Lisa and Nat (drunkenly) putting the world to rights. At the beach they had a fire show with poi and fire sticks, which was good, as Lisa had never seen one before. At about 2am we headed towards home and had a few chilled out drinks at Leela Bungalows, which is the next resort to ours, but they have music quite late, where as everything shuts down at our bungalows by midnight.
The next day it was Beckie, Kate and Sam's turn to arrive. They were making their own way to the island and were due to arrive sometime in the afternoon. When they turned up they didn't like their accommodation, it was very basic with a separate toilet block with a squat
toilet and it was up some very steep steps. They had somehow gotten their suitcases up these steps, but they didn't feel safe staying there. It was a beautiful house, but I could what they meant, i would have killed myself on those steps after a few drinks. Luckily the woman who owned the guesthouse was FANTASTIC and she upgraded them to the most amazing room. Me and Nat were very jealous!! The shower was built into the rock and it had a massive balcony. That night we just chilled out at the local bar Leela Bungalows again.
The day there was a party going on about 30 minutes away called the Jungle Experience. Parties in Koh Phangan don't get going until after midnight, so we all went to the beach in Haad Rin first so that Beckie, Kate and Sam could check out the fire show. It was now only 2 days until the full moon party and I could believe the difference on the beach. There were more than double the amount of people there and the fire shows were amazing!! There were 3 people doing it all at once. They were also letting westerners have a
go at fire breathing, which was entertaining viewing as some of them looked like they were going to burn their eyebrows off. I think they must be mad to have a go, especially since most of them were drunk. At midnight we headed back to Leela Bungalows and shortly after Beckie, Kate and Sam were tired, so they headed off to bed. Lisa wanted to stay at Leela Bungalows so we stayed for another hour, before heading off to the party. Jungle Experience was our favourite party last time we were in Koh Phangan, so I was really looking forward to it. It wasn't as good as the first time, there were a lot less people there and there were no sprinklers at sunrise, but it was a great party and me and Nat spent 4-5 hours there dancing non stop!! My foot started to hurt at about 6.30am just as the sun was starting to come up, so we headed back home and chilled for the day.
We didn't really get up to much the next day or two other than shopping and getting my bandages changed (dancing for 4 hours had made it worse). Although we did
see a spectacular sunset, the best I've ever seen in Koh Phangan.
Finally it was 18th April - FULL MOON PARTY!!! Woo!! We had a nice chilled out day and then started to get ready at sunset. Typically the electricity went off so we had to get ready in not a lot of a light. Me, Nat and Lisa headed to Beckie, Kate and Sam's bungalow. They had been moved and upgraded again and the new one had the largest balcony I've ever seen. It had more than enough space for us all to chill out on and get ready. I had bought some UV paints, so we all painted UV tattoos on ourselves, while drinking some beers. It was fab. Once we were in town we got some food and then headed to our favourite bar, the Reggae Bar. It is lush in there, lots of cushions on the floor and a hammock. Its so nice and chilled out and gave us a rest before the chaos of the full moon party. Sam wasn't feeling very well, so Beckie took her home and me, Nat, Lisa and Kate headed to the beach.
It was actually a lot
less busy than usual, so you could actually dance which is good. The beach was very waterlogged from the flooding though, so it was hard walking along without getting my poorly foot wet, but I managed by hopping across all the flooded bits. I wasn't going to drink buckets (a cocktail of nasty vodka and thai redbull in a sandcastle bucket), but I hadn't had one this trip and Lisa and Kate seemed to think it was a good idea. Well that was the start of the madness. I got a taste for it then. The redbull was great, it woke me up and gave me energy so I was dancing non-stop. It got to about 4am and Nat had had enough, so it ended up just the 3 of us and we met the funniest people and had the best time. The funniest was a small boy about 7 years old with a Osama Bin Laden mask on. My last memory is of getting a bit lost with Kate trying to get home at about 8.30am, so we scaled this wall to find a shortcut. We were in hysterics. Somehow we had lost Lisa and Kate had aquired a
new hat. Apparently some guy lent her his sunglasses and she swapped it for a hat, I don't think he was too impressed when he came back for his sunglasses. Oh alcohol I'd missed you!! It was the best night so far on this trip. My foot was in agony, but it was totally worth it.
I chilled out the next day as I wanted energy for the main event of the holiday. The wedding!!!! Not long to wait now and I was soooooo excited!!!!
