Boats anchored on the beautiful Haad Rin Beach, home of the Full Moon parties
We woke up very early today to get ready for our trip to the next island, Koh Phangan. First we headed down for some breakfast, we ordered, then suddenly a guy came looking for us, the bus was here already, almost an hour early. We told him we weren’t ready and to come back in an hour so we could eat breakfast. So he left, we ate our breakfast, we packed our stuff and by this time he was out the front waiting for us. He took us to the pier where we waited for the ferry to come then waited for the passengers to get off. It took around 45 minutes to get to Koh Pha Ngan but on the way we had fantastic view of both islands as we waved goodbye to Koh Samui.

As the ferry neared the pier we grabbed our stuff and could already see the taxi drivers waiting to try rip us off. We were going to get one but at the last minute decided just to walk to our next resort. It was extremely hot in the sun today and walking around with our heavy backpacks probably wasn’t the smartest idea, but finally

after an exhausting walk we found it. We were quite excited about this resort because going by the website this one looked the best. We checked in and they told us they’ll discount our rate because we were the last people staying in the beachfront room before they renovated it, so it was a little basic. We went to our and it was terribly basic, there was barely anything in it but a bed and a crappy toilet and shower, though we didn’t really mind. As the staff were showing us to our room, they tried to turn on the air-conditioner but it didn’t work. They went to get the mechanic to fix it but he couldn’t fix it either. By this time we were getting a little frustrated, Hannah and I got changed in the bathroom then went for a swim in their massive pool. We also had some lunch from the resort, still waiting for the air-conditioner to be fixed. Finally as we finished up our lunch and were heading out for a look around someone told us it’s now fixed.

Afterwards we went for a walk down this beautiful beach, easily one of the best beaches

so far. This was where the famous Full Moon Parties were held and it’s no wonder because it was a fantastic beach. We cut through to the main road looking for a tourist information centre where we could book a ferry to Koh Tao and maybe a snorkeling trip as well. Eventually we found a place and booked a ferry/snorkeling trip with the one company who would drop us off at Koh Tao when we finished, perfect. We were planning on staying 2 nights on Koh Pha Ngan but when we thought about it doing a snorkling trip around Koh Tao then coming back here to then go back to Koh Tao the next day was silly. So instead we again changed our irtinery and would leave for Koh Tao tomorrow and stay two nights instead of one, it was also cheaper this way. We left the information centre and continued having a walk around the town. The heat started getting to us so we cut through to the beach and went back to the resort. I had a quick swim in the beach, Hannah wasn’t interested because of the fish. Then we cancelled our next night at Palita Lodge,

Haad Rin Beach is just beautiful
we weren’t fussed, we’d hardly been able to use our room so far.

For the rest of the afternoon we swam around in the massive pool then when evening came, got changed and headed out for some food. Again we found an Italian restaurant and again it was really good. As it was getting dark we had a walk around the beach then headed back to our resort. They were showing a film so we sat and ordered a few drinks and some dessert and for the rest of the night watched ‘Superbad’ and played cards. When the movie finished we went to sleep. In the middle on the night we were both woken by the ridiculously loud music coming for the other side of the beach, it was so damn loud it was had to get back to sleep. I opened the door to our cabin to find someone lying in our hammock on the porch of our room, it was the security guard. We’d had enough of this place and were happy about changing our plans, we couldn’t wait to get to Koh Tao.
