Hello readers, Georgi here, This blog is to update you on our journey into the upper most parts of Thailand. A place of beauty, encapturing sights, and one of the last known hippy freelands out there. In the north, life is not governed by tourist police and pad thai vendors. No. It is floating on a river of satisfaction, flowing free and easy. The lack of ping pong shows, and umskur ridden walk ways allows one to observe the beauties, rather than just avoiding the nasties. Dont get me wrong, i love Bangkok, in all its rush hour glory, but the ability to seek silence when you need it, and a party when you feel like it, is a luxury only felt in the higher realms of Thailand. We stayed in Giant guesthouse 2 in Chiang ... read more

We only stayed one night here. Its right on the border between Thailand and Loas and is really tiny. We booked our slow boat trip to Loas down the Mekong river through a company run by two sisters who were lovely and ran us around into town and lent us bikes for free! The only nice bit about staying here was the sunset over Loas across the Mekong that we watched from our Guest House Balcony!... read more

Sawadee, Sawati khap & Yo! On the 27th of April we arrived in Bangkok, arriving from Delhi. You will see photos from our last few days in India here and the rest are from Thailand and Laos. Bangkok, though famous for its pollution, decadence and chaos seemed like some rich, clean Swiss town after Delhi: a lovely relief from the horrors of Indian grime. Despite that, we were attacked by swarms of cockroaches, have been ripped off to-the-brimm by the locals and have seen the dark side of the 'bangkok boys' and post-war culture of southeast Asia. Here are some photos, please enjoy!... read more

I can not say enough that the 7 days i spend at the convent/mediation retreat were one of the most amazing times in mi life ... i think with my 6 day experience with elephants the end of my trip was definitly in my top three of my journey ... had woken up at 5am to catch the train at 5'50am however there was an immediate delay of 35 minutes so by the time i arrived at the trainstation where i was suppost to get off everyone at the retreat was in the middle of their 'chores' ... as i walked in i sneaked in a few pictures, however i soon was found out and later on i realize why it's forbidden to take pictures and'/or write about the place in detail ... i't just too ... read more

Arriving in Chiang Khong we checked into Boom guesthouse. After sitting on a boat for two days we had to then walk 1km to find an ATM so after getting organised we headed out and stopped off at a cafe on the way back for dinner. A few of the locals were having a drink and after eating they insisted we join them. They gave us both a whiskey and coke but after tasting it to please them I passed it over to Emily. They told us stories about the town when tourists had to spend three days there waiting for a visa and one of the guys was a traveling tattooist with lots of stories. We sat with them for an hour or so before going back to the guesthouse. It had been a long ... read more

Our journey to Bangkok was expected to be smooth, however, we did hit a few bumps along the way but we cleared them with backpackers style. Firstly, we waited over an hour and a half for our first bus which when it finally turned up we wished we were waiting for the next one. Extremely grimy, broken air conditioning system and overall just an uncomfortable couple of hours. We pulled up in Poipet and believed we would be boarding a minibus with a guide to take us across the border. Upon enquiring about the location of our next bus we were disappointingly met with negative answers. A man told us 'not my company, take tuk-tuk'. Out of options we took the tuk tuk which was a little different again as it was like a side cart ... read more

My visa exemption had come to an end so I made for the Thai-Lao border. I decided to use my full time in Thailand and spend the night in the sleepy town of Chiang Khong. I was not to do much apart from recharge my batteries and what a place to do it. My guest house lay beside the fast flowing Mekong with scenic land of Laos on the other side. As the Sun lowered, I indulged in a couple of glass-bottled Cokes and the best book I have ever read, Norweigen Wood by Haruki Marukami. Local fisherman hauled in the catches in apparent silence, shadows grew longer and eventually the off-key Karaoke was in full swing across the water. Fireflies even joined the party, one by one, blinking in a hypnotizing fashion on the riverbank. ... read more
