I made it to Chiang Mai this afternoon, checked into the hotel, and hoofed it around town. Chiang Mai is more of a resort type town than Bangkok....more intimate, with lush green mountain jungle surrounding the city. This also the place where if you want to get up early, you can get out in the street with rice or water or fruit or candy and wait for the monks to come by. All their daily rations are from food donated by the towns people. In exchange they bless you with good luck. There's also a night market here that's basically more cheap street food under lights. I had a big plate of Chicken basil over rice for 50 cents. Even though the tables were so close to the road you can feel the cars blow past ... read more

5 Nights OK, mental note, when booking a bus trip, make sure it has VIP in the name and that it looks good in the picture they show you, and if it is only AU$7 for a 12 hour bus ride ask why. It was the bus trip from hell, Bangkok to Chang Mai. Picture this, an old shitty bus, the aircon sort of works, you can hear and smell the toilet from your seat, no movies, a psycho host who tells anyone who dares to ask a question to shut up and sit down, you have to beg for a blanket and a bus driver who weaves in and out of traffic, nearly rolls the bus 1000 times and talks and texts on his mobile phone whilst 50 shit scared backpackers try to get some ... read more

Another week has flown by here in Chiang Mai. We thought we would update you all before we head off to Laos via the slow boat. We will head up to a place called Chiang Rai and then to the border where we will board a boat on the Mekong River down through Laos to Luang Prebang. Last Thursday was Nick's 27th birthday which was kicked off with the best present any traveller could want: toilet paper and M&Ms. In the massage class everyone sang happy birthday and in the evening we went out for a very nice and fancy dinner at a restaurant called "The House". All in all the beginning of 27 was good for Nick. We continued the massage class through last Friday. Nick was having a bit of a harder time bending ... read more

Well, since my last blog, a whole HEAP of stuff has happened..almost too much for me to remember, but i'll try my best!!! My second day in Bangkok was a lot better than the first. I went to the Grand Palace, Say the Emerald Buddha, the Reclinign Buddha (Wat Pho) and took a stroll down to China Town. Also did a bit of shopping at the massive Weekend Market, nothing like retail therapy to lift your spirits, eh?! After that, my adventure in the North of Thailand began! It all started with a 12 hour "bus" journey (it actually was a super-deluxe coach with reclining seats, air con and "2 Fast 2 Furious" playing on the TV - not roughing it too much!) I arrived in Chiang Mai at 6am and got driven to the guesthouse ... read more

Hey everyone! How are you all doing? Hope you are all well! At the moment I'm in Chaing Mai which is northern thailand! Feeling a little bit/lot hungover after our BNO last nite and am ever more traumatised about the thought that we've gotta get a bus in a few hours to Bangkok that takes a good 12 hours! Not fun! So i think the last time i wrote in this thing it was 2 weeks ago now, so i've been to quite a few places in Thailand since then! So here's my little rundown! Enjoy and don't get too bored! Phuket After leaving Koh Samui we took a bus over to Phuket and stayed there for about 5nights! We stayed in pretty swish accommodation there to tell the truth! So not doing the proper backpacking ... read more

In past several days here in Chiang Mai, have dropped off the passport and visa application with a local travel agent who will do the visa run to the Myanmar embassy, quoting a 3-day turnaround which, proved true, receiving the passport and visa back on Friday. Proceeded to book an Air Mandalay flight into Mandalay for 3600B, directly from Chiang Mai but, found that the "weekly" flight is booked solid for the entire month of December. Alternative will be to return to Bangkok and book a flight there, presumably into Yangon instead. So, purchased an overnight berth for 790B back to Bangkok for Monday night and will go back to Chaiwat Tours. On Tuesday evening, Lori & Tom took me to the 'Old Chiang Mai Cultural Centre' for its' dinner show, costing 320B, and not a ... read more

Spaci vozen vyzeral celkom zvlastne.

Have been here 5 nights now. Met Lori & Tom for dinner on Monday night at an "Irish" cafe but, the only thing remotely Irish about it was its' (Irish??) 'bangers & mash'. A good meal otherwise though. We agreed to meet the following night, Tuesday, at the 'Bier Stube' before continuing to the "Old Chiangmai Cultural Centre". It was a 7pm dinner, which was OK and filling but with expensive drinks menu; the show was OK also and generally enjoyable, albeit a tourist tramp! Total cost for the dinner show was 320Bhat. ... read more
