Geo: 18.8, 98.98We were picked up at 1pm and ventured into one of the largest mountains in Thailand, the road towards the top was not the best so we changed to a truck because the road was very narrow and full of pot holes. Mona did not tell us how narrow the roads were and it was busy with people in cars, on bikes and in buses we held our breath a few times because there was not much room to get pass. The first stop was the village school of the White Meo Hilltribe, the King was responsible for the school being built for the local children. The King and Queen of Thailand are adored by the people but has no power and yet managed to influence the government to get this done, with running ... read more

Geo: 18.8, 98.98We left Chiang Mai by road 200 kms away across mountains, valleys and picturesque landscapes. This was a full day trip so we were picked up at 7am and did not get back until 8.30pm. One thing we realised in Thailand was that a day is as long as it takes, no such thing as 9am - 5pm and the workers only get payed a very minimal wage, you could not ask for better attention from the guides we had.We were accompanied today by Les who was on holidays from Sadi Arabia where he works in public relations for the American Army, lovely man who we really enjoyed the company of as we experienced the diversity of Thialand. "He loved the green lush country side compared with the sand pit he works in".The first ... read more

Geo: 18.8, 98.98Woke this morning and during the night water had been running through a light fitting with water all over the floor, in the entrance, we went down to have breakfast and reported this to reception which was fixed by the time we had finished breakfast, now waiting to be picked up at 8.30am for a morning City and Temple Tour. They were amazing Temples in the Old City with the oldest being damaged last year in an earthquake. Three school girls approached us asking if a photo could be taken with us for their English school project, they were lovely and grateful. We then were taken to a Silk Factory which would have to be the highlight of the day it was amazing to see the whole process of getting the silk from the ... read more

Geo: 18.8, 98.98 Packed and were picked up at 10.15am for our flight to Chaing Mai, peak hour is all the time here but we had a good run, taking 20 minutes and our flight was at 1.10pm. The Airport here is three to four times the size of Melbourne just huge. In the airport and walking through the boarding area with half an hour to go I finally saw Swatches which have no metal and I can wear, so bought one for 3400 baht, $132.55 really nice. Mick waiting said we have 10 minutes to board so left and nearly missed the plane the boarding area was far in the distance, we only just made the plane. We booked in to the Dusit Princess Chiang Mai in the heart of the city which is in ... read more

I left our hotel at 8am with several of the others in our crowd to drive the hour and a half out of the city to go to the Elephant Nature Park, which is a sanctuary for rescued elephants. We arrived there around 9-45am after a short pit-stop on the way to stretch our legs and whilst doing so, spent a few minutes watching a man tending his rice field. Arriving at the Nature Park we went straight into the huge undercover communal area for visitors, set up with long tables with chairs, where Zaa, our local guide for the day, had reserved a table for us where we could leave our stuff whilst we were wandering around, just taking our cameras and valuables with us. Before we got started, and for our own safety, we ... read more

After spending the last couple of days in Bangkok, we move on today and head for Chiang Mai by train later this afternoon. We had had our Intrepid welcome meeting last night, where we met our fellow travellers for the next couple of weeks. We have 11 in our group, including Katie, our tour leader, who is Thai and lives in Chiang Mai when she is at home. The greater percentage of our group are all Aussies, except for 3 of us. We have Rick & Libby from NSW; Jim from Queensland; Catherine from Victoria; Joe, from NSW; Ted and me and, for the first time, not the mum and dad of the group; Dave & Anita from England and Rory from New Zealand. For Ted and me, this is an unusual Intrepid group for, on ... read more

Hello friends! So aside from wanting to be hands on and help the elephants live a life of freedom, I want to bring smiles to the children's faces that go to the near by school. I have collected boys & girls clothing & shoes, fun costume jewelry for the girls to play dress up with, fun flash cards to teach English, cute stuffed animals, & these amazing motivational coloring books with crayons. I can't wait to see their little faces light up!! Thank you to all of my friends who donated items! I love you!! So this motivational coloring book is called..SeeMore Frog and the Midnight Flight of the CanBees. The story teaches the message of "Life is what you make it", and "Be all that you can be!" Bangkok 27July - 2 Aug - Bangkok Shangri-La We were met at the airport by the hotel limousine - it's the most luxurious car I've ever been in with adjustable seats and footrests in the back of the car! We were greeted at the hotel and taken straight to the lift where we had an in-room check-in. They had decorated our amazing suite with balloons and flower petal art on bed. Red roses in bedroom, bathroom and lounge! As Horizon club members we had use of the 19th floor lounge where we had breakfast and also free cocktail Happy Hour from 5pm-7pm. This basically was all you could eat and drink for 2 hours!! We ate in the in hotel Thai Retaurant on the first night as we had a complimentary meal. this was a set ... read more
