So, here I am sweating on my nice little balcony in Chiang Mai, Thailand, drinking tea and eating fresh bananas. After a 36 hour trip by bus and plane, I arrived here last night, with my bike. This is it, an old dream coming true. However I feel like a newbie, not really knowing yet how I am going to manage to find my way in foreign countries with foreign alphabets, on my bike, and how my old body will cope, but at least I will give it a try. Even if the trip just started, I already have a few small adventures to tell. The first one happened as I was still in Montreal... I guess I was so focussed on getting my bike on the plane and finding out how much United was going ... read more

Some people say travelling will change you, my dads wise words were I would stop wearing make up and shaving my body hair........ This is not the changes I'm talking about. Yesterday whilst in Chiang mai I faced one of my biggest fears(this being after quitting my job and buying around the world ticket) booked a zip line in the jungle. There were over 40 zip lines and the largest one being 850 metres above the jungle. Along with free falls (which terrified me). We were also doing them superman style...... The day prior we went to an elephant sanctuary where we Trekked with elephants and guides and managed to have a baby elephant sit on me..... 100kg, terrifying initially but an amazing experience All these things I never thought I would one have the opportunity ... read more

Today, we kicked-off our ten day motorcycle tour around northern Thailand. I am part of a twelve person group that includes our Thai tour guide Noah, two couples from Australia, three individual riders from the United Kingdom, a couple from China, and an individual rider from Germany. As the day progressed and everyone got to know each other, it was interesting hearing the different stories of adventure, places everyone has traveled, and where they are going next. One of the ladies from Australia was teaching nursing in the neighboring country of Laos. After finishing her teachings, she and her husband decided to take a couple weeks and tour Thailand by motorcycle before heading back down under. One of the individuals from the U.K. is on a six week journey traveling through the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and ... read more

So I finally got a chance to take in some Muay Thai fights; something I never got around to last time I was in Thailand. The bouts included a mixture of female matches as well as teenagers, and adults. From what I was told, they sometimes even have dwarf matches. But I think my favorite had to be the blinded matches. They blindfolded four young fighters and let them loose in the ring. The fights took place at the Thapae Boxing Stadium right behind Thapae Gate on Moonmuang Road. Because of its central location in Chiang Mai, fights are often fought before a well-packed crowd of mostly foreign tourists. So we took the sleeper train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, it is advised to book this well in advance as the tickets sell out really fast (especially for the train leaving in the evening). We got the train at half two and it cost 1200 baht for the two of us for a second class ticket. Well it was an experience I can tell you! The windows are open so you get a lovely cool breeze and see some wonderful sites, including the monkey temple, mountains and sunset but you also get mosquitoes (do use deet, especially if they love you as much as they love me!) I swear I'm like a delicacy for them or something lol! The dining was an interesting experience, street vendors hop on at station stops and sell everything from full ... read more

A big warm S̄wạs̄dī (hello) to the pretty city of Chiang Mai. This place is like a breath of fresh air (literally) after Bangkok. Take note that there's no public buses here but there are sŏrng·tăa·ou (pronounced sing tow), these are fancy pick up trucks with benches in the back and they take you round the city for about 20 baht. However, they go in a random direction, picking up other passengers as they go! Do take a red one as they are licensed ??. So, we had a craving for some western food and got pizza, this was a mistake budget wise (western food is not cheap here!), but at least we fixed our craving lol. So next on the agenda was to fulfill my bucketlist dream of playing with tiger cubs in tiger kingdom. ... read more

We had arrived in Chiang Mai by train around 7-30am, a trip of about 13 hours and 20 minutes. The train was very comfortable – air conditioned and with quite good service and I had slept rather well throughout the night in my upper bunk. I just love train travel. The food on board was also good. You could order dinner and breakfast from a set menu and Ted’s and mine was TBT170 (about AUD$8-50) each, which was good value, as there were 4 small courses for the money. We didn’t worry about breakfast and thought that we would wait until we got to the hotel. It seemed we had brought the rain with us from Bangkok, as it was still raining quite heavily when we arrived at the station. We had only to wait a ... read more

15-22 July Phuket On Wednesday 15th of July we were up early for a 6.30 am pick up for 9.45 am flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Don Mueang then to Phuket arriving Renaissance Phuket. We arrived at the Resort & Spa at 4pm. We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor with a large bathroom and balcony. In the evenings there was Happy hour with 2 for 1 cocktails and the option of Sushi and Sashimi. There were amazing breakfasts which were included so we made the most of it and occasionally snaffled food for rest of day! They even served ice cream! Tom went to gym several times and we chilled by the pool overlooking the sea. I had 2 Thai massages Tom had 1 Thai Massage, 1 Hot Stone massage and ... read more

Geo: 18.8, 98.98We were being picked up tonight at 6pm from the Hotel to the airport so Mick went for a smoke and as usual there were Tuk Tuks, Trucks and Taxi's outside. He asked a woman driver about taking us to the Orchid and Butterfly Farm she said it was only 30 minutes from Chaing Mai and would take us for 800 Baht ($31 for the day). We had to book out of the Hotel at 12pm and Porn was waiting for us with lots of suggestions for us to do. Luckily Mick told her we needed to be back at the Hotel at 3pm, but on the way she showed us her book of attractions and the Tiger Kingdom looked great which she said we had plenty of time to do and would drop ... read more
