Temple temple temple...
This is in Bangkok-all a bit too bling we thought Hi everybody. Since i last blogged we have crossed the Cambodia-Thailand border-it took 14 hrs to get to Bangkok involving bumpy roads and bus which wasnt waterproof!!! It dropped us off in the backpacker district - Koh San road. We arrived at 930pm feeling knackered and had to wander from guesthouse to guesthouse for 2 1/2 hrs. ALL FULL! At midnight we decided the expensive hotel was very appealing and booked in-had free water and cotton buds and everything!! How the holiday makers live!!!. We had a random english guy called Rob stay with us too as also couldnt find a room. The breakfast was free so we looked like we hadnt eaten in months as we stacked our plates high!!
We met up with the Aussies and went to the Bangkok rock concert. Really funny watching a crowd of Asians singing to Oasis ( completley the wrong words but they were enjoying themselves!) . We happened to find the wasted english guy who decided to piss in the middle of the crowd and get mine and Beths legs-nice!!! why are they always english!!!????
We have made our way up the country. From Kranchanaburi -bridge over the river Kwai -where we
stayed on a floating house and climed a 7 level waterfall where you could swim in its pools ( paradise!)- to the ancient cities of Ayuthya and Sukhotthai. We hired bikes to see the ruins... yes i did say bikes. Havnt riden since i was about 9! We felt like the von trapp family and did sing ' doh a dear a female dear' at one point. So we see more temple, temple, temples and budda, budda, buddas...... -not sure its possible to see any more! We have been on local trains and busses. We are hard core backpackers now!!!
We are now in Chiang Mai ( the second capital in the north ) . Is the gateway to the mountainous villages on the borders. We couldnt find a room at first and ended up in a gay hotel!!!! so glad only men as a bit worried we may be joined by women in the middle of the night!! The next night we found a great place with a pool. We booked some trips through them. We got back last night. The first day we went to the Golden Triangle- where Thailand, Lao and Burma meet. We spent an hour
Another buddha
This ones head some how got removed from its body and now is being engulfed by the tree! on Loa- no passports or visas required which sounded a bit dodgy but as they say ' you pay baht and all ok'! ( so yes Iain we did get to Lao!!!). We were then taken to the ' ethnic mountain villagers' - we saw the Long Neck tribe. The girls literally have long necks from being made to wear bronze rings. Apparantley to stop the tigers taking them off by their necks when the men away...we think the men are having a laugh!!! ' is all ok' though-they can take them off when giving birth' - great!!
Last night we got back from our 2 day trek. My whole body aches. I feel like i have been hit by a bus!!!! The first day we hiked for 3 hours up hill. One hill called ' oh my budda', one called 'oh my god' - appropriately named. We arrived in a hill top village where we stayed the night. Very little water left in the water tank so we had to use a hose and squat for a shower!! We were entertained by the local children who sang us songs and they used a very cute 3 year old to
ask for money-it worked!!!
The next day we hiked an hour down hill-very slippy- to a waterfall. Really needed to swim there as so sweaty!!! We then had to walk an hour over very unsturdy logs across the river to get to the elephant base. The elephants took us on an hours walk through the river. Our one was very greedy and ate the bananas we gave him plus others!! -hes going to have a poorly tummy today! He was very cute though. Kept blowing through his trunk at us to say more please!. Did get a little too close to the cliffs at one point though!
Just too finish us off we had to get the rest of the way by white water rafting and bamboo rafting. As its the dry session was not very deep and we got stranded on some rocks!! Our guide was not happy with us. He kept saying " go go go!". We couldnt go any faster!!!
We were with a great group of people-3 american guys ( who want to take us out in San Fransisco when were are there), and english guy, a french couple and a german girl. We all went
Reclining buddha
See proof we were on bikes!! out when we got back last night. I think we have only had a few hours sleep-obviously ended up in some dodgy club. Have memories of lots of gay men snogging and old western men with young Thai women-all wrong!!!! We were oblivious though dancing on the stage to hip hop i think!!!
Today we do nothing. Going to sit by the pool. We need to rest as a 24hour bus journey ahead of us. Tonight we leave for Bangkok. Get there at 430am tomorrow. Then need to get to another bus station and get another bus down south. Heading for the beaches!!! Need to be a holidaymaker rather than a backpacker for a bit. The american guys have told us to go to an island near Krabi, then Koh Phi Phi then Ko Lanta. So a bit of island hopping. After that back to Bangkok for Beths birthday and flight to Austaralia!!!!
