Day 26 of my world tour 10th Dec
To day Ceri Andy and I went to the golden palace we all learned something today don't trust the tuk tuk drivers they are all on some sort of free petrol scam if they take you to shops and you but things the problem is it's always the same places lol, some times as well we have learned if you find a taxi driver that speaks English they are not much better. My advice is ask the hostel or get a Trip Advisor book and find places to eat your self, or ask the hostel but the language barrier here is quiet bad but then again I am not one to talk as I don't speak any Thai and I am in their country hehe.
Day 27 to day 29.
The next 3 days were spent really just chilling out and walking about before we head for our amazing 5 weeks up north and down south on the islands. We spent most of the 3 days just looking around markets looking for glasses for Ceri and after 3 days I am happy to say we found some yippee lol. I bought a
few bits and bobs but nothing exciting and poor old Andy with size 12 feet could not find and sandals here as everyone is so tiny they only go up to 11s lol.
To sum Bangkok up I would say it could be a fun city just like London but as we stick out as tourist most people do try and get more money out of you and as they come across so nice you do tend to believe them. That's one thing I think Thailand has going for it the people are all so nice and friendly always happy to help normally in a big city I am quiet weary of walking down a dark alley here in Bangkok I would say you are safe no matter where you go...... touching wood. So again to sum up Bangkok I would say come and visit make sure you got plenty of money and spend a max 3-4 days here 😊
Day 30 and 31.
Today we all got up really early and was looking forward to going to Ayutthaya which is north of Bangkok and just a stop over point for us before we head to Chiang Mai.
We were picked up by our driver and taken to the train station where he bought us our 20 bht tickets 40p ticket for an hour and a half train trip. The class of the train was 3rd class and I can't really say a lot about the train apart from its well 3rd class you can take a guess what it looks like but the trains in the 80s in the UK were cleaner lol.
We arrived at Ayutthaya and we started to get all sort of problems
Our hostel was not there to pick us up we had to call them to let them know we had arrived. When we got there our so called beds were mattress on the floor and full of ants. We had arranged to hire some bike to go on a bike ride around the town and they were death traps Andy fell off his a number of times as the handle bars were twisted lol Oh and in the morning we had no hot water for the shower, on a plus side breakfast was nice.
We had a fun 2 days here though visiting the temple ruins on our bikes and
the 2nd day just visiting a market.... I found this market the best as Ayutthaya there not many tourist things are really cheap even the food.... but here was only one restaurant near to where we were staying so not much choice really. No one here talks English so a lot of hand actions are needed. The high light of this little town is The elephants and the temples ruins. I would say visit this little town just so you can get a little more idea on what small towns are like in Thailand. I quiet enjoyed here ever thought Temples are not my things but I did enjoy riding the bikes and just walking around lol.
Next stop now is Chiang Mai.
Chiang Mai days 33 to 37
Trekking
After a crap time in Bangkok and a really horrible 12 hour train journey with no sleep we are now on a trek where we have met 10 new people. Chris and Tyson to mad Ozzys who I think liven up the trek. Kristina and Jessika to Germans who are very chatty. Paul from London, Stephen, Daniella and Andy from Austria, and finally brother and sister Kerin
and Stefan from Holland.
Day one of the trek started slowly bit once we had been to the market to get dinner for tonight we were on our way for a 2 hour walk to our first stop at a waterfall. The waterfall was freezing cold but cool as I have never been in one before and when you walk under one can send you flying and hurt a little. At night we arrived at our camp and it was freezing cold we started a fire and just sat around all night getting to know everyone with most people drinking, I was good for once and did not have any....... only cus they never had anything I liked lol. At bed time it was about 10 degrees which was freezing so glad I was the only one that took my sleeping bag but it did not help much as I was still freezing cold and did not sleep much. Day 2 of the trek was pretty much the same as day 1 we camped by a water fall at night before heading back in the morning to do some bamboo rafting. The rafting was ok I have a fear of
water and did not think much of it but it was cool, Paul one of the guys I have met on the trek fell in so that was funny lol.
Once back to our hostel most of the group went out on the town for a guide birthday we went to a place called heaven beach where a live band was playing some really cool music like Oasis, Blur, Killers, was quiet strange to hear this Thailand band singing all the songs we love 😊 I got pretty hammered this night and was chatting even more than normal and boy did I feel it the next day with a sore throat and hangover lol.
The next day we just chilled out went to see a monkey show which was pretty cool the monkeys were quiet funny. We are now off down to the islands for Christmas and New year cannot wait this is what I have been looking forward to since arriving in Thailand..... going to be messy 😊
