Torch lighting ceremony at hotelTorch lighting ceremony at hotelTorch lighting ceremony at hotel

At the hotel everyday they had (a very strange ) torch lighting ceremony where those in the picture would dance and light candles...
Hi,

Kev has left me in charge of this update so here it goes:

Well we have made it to Bangkok and it is as hectic and crazy as expected! We have spent the first 2 nights in a rather nice hotel on the riverside which provided free boat trips across the river which were very helpful.

We spent our first day on a hop-on hop-off boat/passenger ferry which was a great way to see a lot of the city. We hopped off at China town which was crazy busy. The alleys were no more than a couple of metres wide with stalls lining both sides and people through the centre. However this did not stop cars, vans, motorbikes, really anything with wheels , trying to get down and make delivery's - pure chaos. And yet we did not stop smiling the whole way!

After this we went to find the hostel we would be staying in for the remaining 3 nights in Bangkok, which is where we are now. We are staying in the Samsen Skyline Hostel which has so far been great. Currently hoping the washing we have put on is going to come out OK but with all instructions in Thai we have our fingers crossed! Tonight we went over to Khao San Road (photo below) which is like anywhere else in Bangkok except for the large number of tourists and slightly higher prices for clothing but at £4 for a pair of trousers it's hard to complain! We tried chicken Pad Thai for food this evening which is fried noodles - NOM! (As was the Thai green curry I had for lunch!).

Apologies for the lack of photos at the moment, not been to an internet cafe to upload them yet but will post them shortly.

Kev will provide next update in a few days WiFi permitting!

Carly & Kev
