We left Sihanoukville on October 1 and took the bus back to Phnom Penh. No break-downs this time, so the ride was good. We got in around noon, had lunch then set out for the Russian market. We managed a few more souvenirs and gifts. That night we went out for one final dinner with our tour group and said goodbye to everyone.
The next morning we met with our guide for breakfast at the local market. It was pretty good food, and the locals laughed at us when be pulled out our big camera to take pictures of ourselves. We wandered around a bit more, then headed back to the hotel for a little rest. For the last 2 weeks we've been so busy, I feel like I need a holiday from my holiday! We caught a cab to the airport and waited for our flight. It was so nice to fly, instead of take the journey over-land. Flights for 2 people (including taxes and baggage costs) was $40...how can you beat it???
We arrived in Bangkok in the rain (we're starting to feel a trend). We found a cab and headed to the Kao San Road area
to our guest house. We checked in then had some delicious street food for dinner. Strawberry Fanta and Pad Thai. We checked our emails and there was one there for me from Laticia and Robyn (fellow SLPs) saying that they would be in Bangkok for one night only, and could we meet. A few messages back and forth later, we managed to find each other! It was surreal to hang out with them half-way around the world from home and we had a lot of fun swapping travel stories.
This morning we got up and headed to the Weekend Market. Apparently it's the biggest market in SE Asia, and it was amazing. We had a lot of fun and managed a few more purchases. The only part I didn't like was the pets/animals area. The puppies were so cute, but they were in tiny metal cages and it's crazy hot here today. I think Trev could see it was upsetting me, so we did our best to avoid stumbling back into the area. There is one very important lesson for shopping the weekend market: if you like it, buy it the first time! There is no way you would
be able to find your way back!
We left the market and headed back to the Kao San area and we signed up for dive school on Koh Tao. It's great because they plan your transportation to the island. We leave on an overnight bus at 7:30pm tonight. It will be a couple days before we get settled and are near a computer again, but we'll update then.
Love Court.
So i have not added in a while so you get my 2 cents now, court has been doing awesome with the blog so there is not much to add. Well those of you worried that court was not buying enough or shopping enough, let you concerns subside because holy man we have stuff (we are storing it at our hotel when we get back to bangkok so we dont have to lug it around). Bangkok is really fun especially when you have 3 gorgeous girls following you around and you get nothing but thumbs ups and hand shakes from all the vendors. I cant wait for diving, Court is doing here open water and I am doing my advanced (mine is only 2 days and
Courts is 4, so i will probably slip in a couple more dives). At the weekend market i did way better than Court, I got so much stuff, my best purchase though has to be the saffron, the package is as big as both of my fists and it cost $3, at home a little vial that is barely as big as from the last knuckle to the end of my finger is $18. So in summary, Court is buying lots, I am keeping up a bit (even a couple things for myself), having a great time, street food is awesome, diving is going to be great, have fun in the snow muhahaha.
