We started our trip home at 3:45am with an early taxi transfer to the airport. It's a really quick trip that early in the morning. We didn't have any problems with our luggage being overweight, so that was good. Our flight from Bangkok to Tokyo left at 7am. The flight was 6 hours, so we landed in the early afternoon. The flight attendant at the ticket desk recommended the sushi restaurant in the airport. It was sooo good. Everything was so fresh and tasty. Trev was swooning over the fatty tuna rolls (which were amazing) so he ordered a piece of sashimi - it probably cost about $10 CAD, but from the look on his face, I'm sure it was worth it. We looked around at some of the shops in the airport and found green ... read more

Hi All! After we arrive back on solid ground we stayed at the same resort in Khao Lak, Nangtong Bay Resort, we even got the same room! Our room was covered in orchid blossoms, a nice touch. The day after we got off the boat (Oct.23) we definitely felt like we were still sloshing around for most of the day. Ugh, vertigo. We spent the day relaxing by the pool...ahhh, so nice. The next day we had to get up super early (4 am) to take a cab to the airport in Phuket. It was about an 1.5 hour ride, but we were in a super-nice minibus. We had big comfy leather seats with footrests...where were the minibuses like this all along? We arrived into Bangkok nice and early. Now that we had already experienced the ... read more

Hi Everybody, we are back from diving (Its me Trevor typing first, just in case you cant tell the difference between my typing and Courts) So I will start from leaving ko lanta to khao lak, so khao lak is where our live-aboard departed from (or as we would find out where the dive shop was located) we had to take a van from ko lanta to krabi and then another one from krabi to khao lak. khao lak is just north of Phuket. So the bus ride to krabi was fine but then the bus to Khao Lak happened, well it was twisty twisty roads with high speed driving complete with a lack of A/C that resulted in some of the most nausea inducing couple of hours ever (so we thought). We finally arrived at ... read more

So Trevor (Me) is starting first.... So last night I couldn't sleep while my darling wife fell asleep to the movie we were watching on my iphone in 5 min as per the usual. So, I stayed up and watched the whole movie then did some reading. Then I heard some bag rustling.... then again, I am like oh no a mouse or worse a rat, if im lucky a cockroach got into something we left in one of our shopping bags. So I get my headlamp and creep towards the bag, open it up, and there is a gecko about as long as my middle finger chomping down on one of oreos (vanilla cookie with a chocolate centre), so I left one out for the little guy (he eats bugs most of the time after ... read more

Hi Everyone! Yesterday was a long travel day from Koh Phangnan to Koh Lanta. Our day started really early. We had arranged a ride to the ferry pier from Bottle Beach at 6am, but I think they kind-of forgot about us, so we had a late start. When there's no one in the back of the truck they can make really good time on the mountain roads. It had been raining all night and was still raining, so I think the roads were in even worse shape than the other day we went to town. We made it just in time for our ferry. The ocean was pretty rough, so the ride was a little bumpy until after the ferry left Koh Samui. We arrived at Suratthani on the mainland, then had to catch the next ... read more

Hi Family and Friends! We haven't updated for a while because we were on a really remote beach on Koh Phangnan, called Bottle Beach. We took the afternoon ferry from Koh Tao after a morning of diving. The weather was really windy that morning and the ocean was really rough. I felt seasick within minutes, despite the Gravol. My first dive was a 30m dive at Chumpon Pinnacle. Everything went really well, despite the seasickness...did you know you can puke into your regulator and everything still works? Well, now I do! The second dive was in a much calmer location and I did a navigation dive. My buddy and I also got to go off on our own to explore. Yay scuba adventure! Anyhow, the diving was great, Trev had fun too but he won't get ... read more

hi everyone! I know it's been a few days since we've updated, but they've been busy days for us :) we took the overnight bus from bankok to chumpon, then the highspeed catamaran over to koh tao. i don't know how we got so lucky, but we got the very front seats on the upper level of the bus, so we had lots of leg room. it was a long and uncomfortable ride, but it wasn't as bad as some of the buses in cambodia. we left bangkok at about 8;30ish and arrived at the pier at 5:30, then had to wait until 7:30 for the catamaran to pick us up. the ride on the catamaran was pretty good, and i was definitely glad we took the highspeed one. we were picked up at the pier ... read more

We left Sihanoukville on October 1 and took the bus back to Phnom Penh. No break-downs this time, so the ride was good. We got in around noon, had lunch then set out for the Russian market. We managed a few more souvenirs and gifts. That night we went out for one final dinner with our tour group and said goodbye to everyone. The next morning we met with our guide for breakfast at the local market. It was pretty good food, and the locals laughed at us when be pulled out our big camera to take pictures of ourselves. We wandered around a bit more, then headed back to the hotel for a little rest. For the last 2 weeks we've been so busy, I feel like I need a holiday from my holiday! We ... read more

We arrived in Sihanoukville at lunchtime and went to the Starfish cafe (an Intrepid Foundation NGO) for lunch. The food was excellent and so was the shopping! I bought some scarves, necklaces and wallets - I love buying things knowing that the money will help people who really need it. Items may cost more than at the market, but you know if they say it's silver or silk, it actually is. We checked into our hotel, which has cute bungalow rooms and a swimming pool (that actually has cool water, nice). Trev and I set out exploring and found another fair trade shop and bought more things. Yay shopping! We also had 45 min. back massages for $5. We ate fresh seafood BBQ for dinner, which was so fresh and delicious. Today we took a little ... read more

We boarded the public bus at 7:30 am bound for Phnom Penh. The ride was fairly uneventful and I slept most of the way. There wasn't even crazy karaoke. We arrived in Phnom Penh at around 11, so we went to Romdeng for lunch. It's an NGO organization that helps with vocational training. The restaurant we went to specializes in Cambodian food and teaches young staff how to work in the restaurant business. The food was delicious. Trev bought a cookbook from them, it's called "From Spiders to Water Lilies". We don't think we'll be able to prepare fried spider treats for you at home though, unless we buy tarantulas at the pet store... We did a little more wandering around Phnom Penh then met our group back at the bus station at 1:15 to catch ... read more
