Hello from the land of heat and humidity!
Well after a realativily short plane ride we arrived in Bangkok! The Sri Lanken Airline was actually very good, really yummy food. We heard about the taxi scams in Bangkok and low and behold as soon as we came off the plane there was many people trying to corall us into some sort of taxi ride. But we were smart and lined up for the public transport line. These last few days have been very fun with hiring a Tuk Tuk driver to drive us around for the last two days for not even 3 dollars and he has been driving us around in insanely crazy traffic to see lots of Wat's (temples). Again many, many buddha's, but they are all fasinating in their own way. On Monday we walked around Koh San Road and if anyone has been to Bangkok this street is very famous for being the backpackersville. Which is very true we are no longer outnumbered like we were in China. So we found some travel agent guy to run around and get our Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia visas for us so now we are waiting for those until Thursday.
After looking around to quite a few places, our intuition told us to go with this one guy so hopefully it works out. EEK! So for now we are drinking really cheap beer and enjoying all the interesting steet vendors/food (the street Pad Thai and Spring Rolls are AWESOME for under 2 Canadian dollars). Thursday night we have a night bus booked to take us South to the island Koh Tao. We are making our way down south for the Full Moon Party. Which we are very excited about. We have a few hotels reserved on those islands for when we get there. Our plan is to travel to Koh Tao first then after a few days of diving and snorkeling, make our way to Koh Phangan (where the full moon party is), then go to the island Koh Samuai then heading back to the mainland for make our way to the west coast to see Krabi, Ko Pi Pi, and Phuket. Then we have a bus booked to take us all way up to Chaing Mai (which will be a lovely 20 + bus ride). But there we get to do this cool 3 day 2 night elephant riding,
Kids In The RiverWe went on a 1 hour boat ride in our own private boat in Bangkok and saw some interesting sites along the way. One being many little kids swimming in a not very clean river.
bamboo rafting, trekking adventure, and sleep with the jungle village people. We have limited time today on the internet so it is a shorter blog than usual and no pics for now but check later on this entry and hopefully we will have pics of us and buddhas. Hopefully we will have internet on the islands to put more blogs on but if not, don't worry about us and we will write an entry as soon as we can. We hope everyone is doing well at home and Stella too! We are thinking of all of you.
Hopefully we will write soon.
Monica and Curtis
Wat Pho42 meter long and 15 meter high extremely large reclined buddha. This one was very cool for its sheer size.
Curtis and a BuddhaAt Wat Suthat, there was one large buddha in a temple and a courtyard around it with many smaller buddha's all the way around the courtyard.
Wat TriamitThis buddha is made from real gold. They were building a very gold building beside the old temple where this buddha is going to be housed.
