Edit Blog Post

Hello All and welcome back to another addition of the Gregg and Elise Travel Blog - Asian Edition; where the last name is now the same and the brown-o-meter ranks supreme.

We will keep this short as the internet is insufferably slow here and our time is somewhat limited so its a waste to stay too long in an internet cafe when there is so much pollution to ingest.

Also, I've gone through and tried to pare down our list to people that are actually interested. If anyone is missing, its unintentional, pass this on to them and they can subscribe.

We are now in Bangkok and have been for a day and 2 nights. We arrived after a long yet not too unpleasant travel from Chicago to Japan, layover in Japan then onto Bangkok.

We are staying at the Peninsula Hotel which is really beautiful and modern. As a matter of fact its like living in the "Silver Spoons" mansion where everything is remote controlled - but alas there is no toy train running through our hotel room.

We arrived late at night and managed to tend to some honeymoon type activities before crashing.

Yesterday morning we awoke, had some breakfast - thank buddha (our adopted deity for the trip) that they have eggs in this country - and proceeded to go to a tailor and have ourselves fitted for some suits and shirts. Yep, anyone who knows us knows how fashionable we can be. But we figured that a few extra suits would last the likes of us for another decade so why not take advantage. They fit us and within a few hours we had suits. Tonight is the final fitting and they will be waiting for us to leave the country in a few weeks.

In between the picking out the suits, and the fitting we attended a 2 hour massage - the "popular package"; so named because, well, alot of people probably choose it. That was a real treat getting abused by two thai women (in a shared room, so no happy shenanigans). Honestly amidst the stretching and neck cracking was some seriously nice rubbing and prodding of the body.

Then last night we opted (unwisely) to walk to dinner. The Peninsula is on the other side of the river for us so we took a boat across then walked the rest of the way on a street that even the best frogger player would find daunting. But we made it to the BLUE ELEPHANT restaurant which is apparently a chain, but still very good Thai food that we both were able to enjoy. We then went home and jet-lagged ourselves to sleep at about 10:30 PM (otherwise known as the afternoon to me).

We awoke today and had a nice tour of the Grand Palace which lived up to its name by being quite grand. The architecture is pretty amazing, especially when realizing that nearly all of it was hand crafted. It's interesting to be in a country that respects and loves their leaders - not that George W. isn't cute and cuddly, but I don't think that we'd get very far if on every street corner was a shrine with photos of He and Laura at all stages of their life. Within the royal palace are some amazing temples (called Wat's, hence the title of this posting). The Wat's are very cool to look at and I can't argue with the tenet's of buddhism so I'm all for it.

So, that about sums it up. We are moving on to Chiang Mai tomorrow, and are really looking forward to leaving the large congested city for a smaller more "real" environment.

Nothing to report on the brown-o-meter as there hasn't been much sun, and even less pool time so far.

So for Mrs. Jaffe (junior, not Pam) and myself, we'll be back soon.

Frogger
Frogger is the best and I think most popular video game reference in the post-atari era. It even translates well. So congratulations on becoming newlyweds. Hope Thailand's treating you well. If any of the restaurants have pun names like they do in the US; Once upon a Thai, I suggest going in. Especially if it's in English. Looking forward to more blogs
