Bangkok

Hallo Ihr Lieben!

Wie gesagt, am 24.05.07 sind wir morgens um 11 Uhr in der Stadt unserer Traeume angekommen: Bangkok!!! Tja, es ist wirklich so! Wir waren uns nicht sicher, ob es uns immer noch so gut gefallen wuerde, wie wir es von unserer Reise vor 6 Jahren in Erinnerung hatten. Aber ja, es ist definitiv eine Wahnsinnsstadt!!!

Insgesamt waren wir zwei Tage hier und haben mitten im alten Stadtzentrum direkt am Fluss in einem netten Hotel gewohnt! Wir sind einfach viel durch die Strassen geschlendert und haben die Atmosphaere der Stadt in uns aufgenommen!! Es war einfach wunderbar!

Ausserdem haben wir endlich den Koenigspalast besucht, was wir das letzte Mal nicht geschafft haben, weil er geschlossen war!!

Aber dieses Mal hat es geklappt und es definitiv einen Besuch wert. Die Anlage ist riesengross (sind einmal ganz rumgelaufen...) und wird heute vom Koenig lediglich fuer zeremonielle Zwecke genutzt!

Die Anlage besteht aus diversen verschiedenen Palaesten und Tempeln! Alle Gebaeude sind reich verziert und ueberall ist Gold und es glitzert, wohin man auch schaut! Absoluter Pomp! Aber einfach auch toll zu sehen! Also, wenn einer von Euch mal nach Bangkok kommt, sollte unbedingt da vorbei!!!!

Nach den zwei sehr schoenen Tagen sind wir dann am 26.05.07 morgens nach Phuket geflogen! Und haben damit einen der erholsamen Teile unserer Reise eingeleitet!!! Aber davon spaeter mehr!

Hello Guys!

As we already told you in our last entry, our next stop was Bangkok - the city of our dreams - where we arrived on May 24th. In the beginning, we were not 100% sure, whether we would still like Bangkok as much as during our first trip to Thailand 6 years ago. But what can we say: we fell again in love with this city within the first hour. It’s definitely a fantastic city!

In total we just spent two days in Bangkok - we found a nice hotel in the center of the city, close to the river. We spent hours walking around the city and trying to capture as much as possible from the atmosphere. It was just great!

We also finally managed to see the Royal Palace, which was closed last time we were in Bangkok. This time everything went well and we spent a couple of hours wandering around the different palaces and temples. It’s a great compound and well worth a visit, as it is in great condition (still used for ceremonies by the Royal family).

Most of the palaces and temples are at least partly covered with gold, marbles or some other sparkling items. Absolutely pompous!! It’s great to see and you definitely should visit the Palace in case you are in Bangkok.

After two great days, we left Bangkok on May 26th and took the plane to Phuket. We are planning to stay for 1 ½ weeks to relax on the beach, to do some scuba-diving (Andrea will do her ‘Advanced Open Water’ course) and to get ready for the second half of our trip. But more about beaches, sun, and diving in our next journal.

Ok, as promised, we are trying to catch up again :-)
