Mumbai

Hallo zusammen!!

Nein, wir sind nicht abhanden gekommen und ja, wir leben noch!! :-)

Wir sind mittlerweile in Thailand angekommen und brauchten einfach mal ein bisschen Pause. Deshalb gab es bisher noch keine Berichte ueber Mumbai etc. Aber das holen wir jetzt nach und wir hoffen, dass Ihr uns nicht untreu werdet... :-)

Also wir sind am 21.05.07 nach ca. 17 Stunden Busfahrt in Mumbai angekommen. Das hat nicht wirklich Spass gemacht, aber dieses Mal hatte der Bus wenigstens Air Condition... :-)

Mumbai ist wirklich ganz anders als Delhi! Es ist deutlich westlicher und aufgeschlossener! Ausserdem sieht man sehr stark den Einfluss der Briten im gesamten Stadtbild. Das ist eigentlich auch, was Mumbai so interessant macht. Es sind weniger die wirklich kulturellen Staetten wie in Delhi als die schoenen viktorianischen Gebaeude!!!

Es macht einfach Spass durch Mumbai zu laufen und sich diese tollen Haeuser anzuschauen:
- Viktoria Station (Sieht nun wirklich nicht aus wie eine Bahnstation, oder?)
- Bombay Universitaet (Da macht das Studieren noch Spass :-)
- St. Thomas Cathedral
- etc.
Vielleicht koennen unsere Bilder einen kleinen Einblick vermitteln! Aber wie Ihr vielleicht auch sehen koennt, ist die Stadt nicht ganz so beeindruckend wie Delhi!

Ansonsten haben wir versucht uns in Mumbai schon ein wenig von den 'Anstrengungen' der vergangenen Wochen zu erholen und sind am 24.05.07 morgens um 4.50 Uhr nach Bangkok geflogen!!

Tja, das war es ueber Mumbai und wir verlassen Indien nach 4 sehr beeindruckenden Wochen! Es war definitiv ein Erlebnis! Das koennen wir mal festhalten!

Hi Everybody!!

No, we did not get lost and we are still alive :-)

We are already in Thailand and we needed some a break from writing our blog :-) That’s the reason why you have not heard anything about Mumbai, Bangkok, etc. But we promise that we will update the blog within the next couple of days, i.e. before we head to San Francisco and we hope that you forgive us for being a bit lazy :-)

OK, on May 21st we arrived in Mumbai after a ‘great’ 17 hour bus ride - not really that much fun, although we booked AC this time :-)

Mumbai is really a completely different story to Delhi! It is much more developed and already much more similar to place like Bangkok, etc. You can really tell that this was part of the British Empire (East India Company), as you can still see the British influence throughout the city. The Victorian buildings and not so much the cultural sites make Mumbai very interesting and distinctive from Delhi.

It has been a lot of fun to walk through Mumbai and see all these great Victorian buildings like:
- Bombay University, a place where studying seems to be lot’s of fun, maybe :-)
- Victoria Station - does not really look just like a train station, does it?
- St. Thomas Cathedral
- High Court and many more.

Maybe you can get a good impression by watching some of the pictures we took. But you might also see that Mumbai is not as impressive as Delhi, at least considering the sites and because it is already more ‘westernized’.

We did not do much more in Mumbai, considering that the previous weeks had been quite exhausting and the available time we had, and at 4.50 am on May 24th we left Mumbai to go to Bangkok, Thailand.

Ok, that’s it for Mumbai and for India. We are leaving India after 4 impressive and eye-opening weeks. This was definitely a great experience, although one really needs some time to get used to the ‘Indian’ way of life (We guess, that we will never get used to the legions of touts, selling everything from tours, hotel rooms, etc.)
