Selling Sin Meat, Unstoppable? Joewel V. Saba While majority of Filipinos prayed together as a family, attended Lenten retreats, served the church, extended help to charity and followed the station of the cross or at least kept a Lenten journal for the forgiveness of their sins, prostitution in my country never stopped amidst the observance of atonement. There was no exercise of fasting or abstinence of human lust because of one very common answer- poverty. That is what their justifications are. What abstinence or fasting can be exercised when these poor countrymen of mine are futuristic to what living they would get after the Lenten season? Would not it be fasting, if they could not eat anything? So they have to sell their meats to earn a living. Not by kilograms but through the night. They ... read more

It was perhaps the worst that hit the country lately, as Storm “Ondoy” pour all over Metro Manila putting many places under water with stranded people already on their rooftops, causing wide-spread blackouts and killing people. As some of you might heard or not, Metro Manila, Philippines had been greatly affected by Typhoon Ondoy. The weeks before my 28th birthday had been most emotionally exhausting and Cubao, Quezon City, a place I have been living since March 2008 (after my three-year stay in Tokyo), had temporarily lost its appeal. Cubao, crowded and dirty as it is, has always been the most convenient spot in the city where I mostly hang out with friends. It is one of the busiest transportation hubs of Quezon City, and from there you could get to most places in the country, and certainly to all neighboring provinces and islands. Should you need to go malling, Cubao has its list of respectable shopping centers (Gateway, Alimall, Farmers Mall and Wet and Dry Market, Shopwise, ... read more

The La Mesa Eco Park A sanctuary amidst the forest of Quezon city. A place where you can explore, have fun, enjoy and relax. We had planned this during the holy week when we had our Bisita Iglesia. When we went La Mesa, we were thinking of a different place, well, as we enter the vicinity both sides have old tall trees. And I wonder, do the eagle have nest there somewhere up there..... ... read more

We came from Plaridel, Bulacan heading towards Quezon City to look for the famous La Mesa Dam or Echo Park. The place is a total nature in the heart of the City. Why go to distant places when in the city itself there exists a beatiful paradise? From the airport, the Park is approximately 20 kilometers. With a bus fare of less than P35 only or taxi fare of around P300, you can already visit a heart-warming nature fresh Echo Park. It has swimming pool, restaurants, refreshment bars, flower gardens, butterfly garden, and a lot more. Come and visit Echo Park! ... read more
