Had it all to myself Quick change of plans,
When I arrived in Bangkok, the weather in Thailand was rainy and overcast. I was planning on hitting the beach for the last 2 weeks of my vacation, but here was not the spot to do. I remembered a guy we met say that the Philippines was very nice; so I checked the net and booked myself a ticket return for under 300. Great price! I was off the next morning!
If you weren’t informed, Philippines is having there elections on the 14th. This year is supposedly a quite on with little violence and protests. But it was hard to miss when I got off the plane. I waited 20 min in my cab while a mile long protest took up the entire street. While on the 10th one of the leaders of a party was assassinated, 5 dead and six injured. As I lay on the beach on the 14 I wondered what the outcome would be and what the outcome the violence would bring.
I first arrived in Puerto Galera. The beach was nice but not quite what I was expecting. I met an Israeli couple staying next door and learned
Sea Snake
Looooooooong some sweet card games. Swam in the ocean three times a day and drank 50 cent beers in the evening. Hiked a small waterfall and played pool and basketball with the locals.
I met a guy from Aus that was a real hoot. We drank, talked and even drug ourselves out of bed at 5 am to do some fishing a few days. It is amazing watching the sun come up as you are dipping in the water. I had the opportunity to view some sea horses, which were quite amazing, as well as some Lion fish. He lives in Talipanan Beach most of the time so I am sure I will be back to visit, since he will always be there!!
I then rode on the top of a Jeepney, exactly what it sounds like, from Puerto Galera to Calapan and a mini van with kids throwing up in the back. Had a nasty 10 hour layover in Roxas while I waited for the ferry. 4 hours later I arrived in Boracay!, though it was raining.
I picked the best spot, a bamboo playhouse called Banana Saging. In the Philippine language saging means banana! How fun!
I got the best room in the place since I was the only one staying there at the moment. I spent the good part of the day sleeping from my hard day of travels. I lay in the sun and swam in the ocean till the sun went down and returned to the bungalow to find that my Israeli friends were now staying there!
Over the next week we ate mangos like they were the last ones left on the planet. The market sold 5 for about 1.20. What a deal. Our biggest fetish while here was the number of bakeries around. We gorged ourselves on fresh treats 2-3 times a day.
I climbed a tree and picked two coconuts, spent alot of time on my deck writing, listening to music and planning my return. I have been giving alot of thought as to my plans for my future. I have had lots of time on this trip to do the things that most interested me and experience different people and cultures. Oded and Maayan were amazing ppl, I believe I am off to Israel while the offer still stands! Had a great time with you two ad
Banana Saging
My sweet Bamboo Playhouse will never forget you. Oded, you read my mind bro! Thanks for the passport holder. I am on my way home and will be in Bangkok here real soon.
I hope everyone is doing well and settling into the summer groove!
I love you lots Nicole and will be back soon
Happy Birthday Maayan!

Wow, you're one hardcore backpacker! Imagine changing plans just like that. How fun :P You really know how to get the most out of your trip - getting coconuts from the trees and riding atop the jeepney, haha! When you get back in the Philippines try Diving! I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
