Basic Route: Kathmandu - Besi Sahar - Ngadi - Jagat - Dharapani - Chame - Lower Pisang - Manang - Yak Kharka - Throng Phedi - Muktinath - Kagbeni - Marpha -Kalopani - Tatopani - Ghorepani - Hile - Naya Pul - Pokhara. It's our last day trekking in the Annapurna region and as we sit on the grass in the tropical and very much rural village of Hile, we have a bit of time to reflect on the up hills and down hills of our journey. As a result of our incredible organisational skills we were finally able to arrange yet another guide the night before we were due to start. Our guide was called Sangam - he had so much experience of trekking the circuit, spoke perfect English and was such a crazy funny ... read more

O man, why am I so lazy to write! The weeks haven't exactly flown by, but I am now in N. Thailand. So I apologize for any lack of fluidity in this blog. Less I digress any further......... Pokhara is an easy place to fall for. The traveler scene is based around lovely Lake Tal. You can find all that food your homesick for and wash it down with a tall bottle of Everest, my favorite Nepalese beer. But the mountains beckoned and I was ready to get up there as soon as possible. I was thinking about doing the 17 day Annapurna Circuit, but I've had respiratory problems since my last 6 months in Taiwan. Looks like all that fresh South Asian air has done a number on my lungs. Had a doctor on the ... read more

Hi, my boyfriend and I are planning on doing the Annapurna circuit trek. We are wondering, wheter to book the trip at a turist agency/treking company (here in Slovenia or in Nepal) or if it can be planned and done on our own. We are both in good physical shape but we are not very experienced mountain climbers. I've heard the best time to do it is in the fall (October, November). Can it be done in the spring as well (March, April, May?) thanks for your help... read more

Hi Everyone. Long time no update! The last time we posted an update we had just finished in Bangladesh and were heading back into India. To keep it brief, we visited the Gorkhaland territory of Darjeeling overlooking the Himalayas. This place is famous for tea and our first mission was to see some tea estates and have a look around a factory. The place we chose - Happy Tea Valley - was the exclusive supplier for Harrods tea (we hit the jack pot) and we had a nice tour and explanation on how everything was done. After this we spent a fortune on different variations on tea to send back home. Job done! After this we visited the Darjeeling Himalayan zoo complex which had some awesome snow leopards and bears and birds etc and then headed ... read more

ANNAPURNA CIRCUIT TREK Duration: 12 to 19 days Maximum elevation: 5416m Length: 259km Best season: October to November DAY ONE - Kathmandu to Bhulbule 7am bus to Besi Sahar where you can take a bus or walk 2 hours to Bhulbule. There’s a couple of small guesthouses and the first tourist checkpoint where we picked up a really cool little map with all the altitudes and durations of travel between each location which came in handy when we wanted to know why each day was getting more and more tiring. It was also our first taste of the REALLY basic accommodation and food provided the WHOLE way along the circuit. DAY TWO - Bhulbule to Jagat Last week I said to Tom how one day I’d really like to cross one of those super dodgy looking ... read more

I don't think anything will prepare you for the magnificent Himalaya's. The trek started about 2 hours from Pokhara by minivan. Having spent the very early hours of the morning trying to book a flight in Thailand, which I have now found out that I have booked it from the wrong airport! We started our trek with our guide, Laxman and 2 porters of which I have to say we could never remember their names, which is awful of us. Laxman was to be our guide through most of Nepal and we couldn't have asked for a nicer man and Chloe was in love..... Our trek would take us up to Camp Australia, Thulakharkal; then on the Dandruk Trek to Landruk, on to Syauli Bazaar, Gjandruk. We went up and down through the mountains, along wonderful ... read more

Day 504: Sunday 15th November - Day 1 of the Annapurna Circuit Besisahar (780m) to Bhulbhule (840m) Distance: 9km Time Taken: 2 hours For the duration of 2009 the thought of trekking around the Annapurna circuit has stopped me prolonging my stay too long in any one place. I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time. The Annapurna circuit is rated as one of the world’s great treks, a regular inclusion in subjective top ten trek lists, but nevertheless included, and some sources even describe it as the ultimate trek. It earns its reputation from the sheer diversity and quality of scenery it passes through on its 214km loop around the Annapurna range of the Himalayas, a 40 mile long wall that stretches from Annapurna I in the west to Annapurna II in the ... read more
