view point hello i have now spent two weeks in malasyia and have been to a variety of place's our first destination was the border town of Kota Baru. Not much to do here but their was a great night food market that served up great indian and chinese food, the first thing i noticed as soon as entering malaysia was the mixed cultures of india, chinese and malay. It reminded us of good things about our time in india like the food and we where back to using our hands to eat at the indian resturants.
next we to the jungle train to go to tamaran negara which is a base camp village for those who want to do a jungle trek. The train through the jungle was good, the time flew by because i was just stearing out the window at the dense jungle for age's, their where a lot of cocroaches that wanted to share my seat with me which was not great that also reminded me of india.
We arrived in the jungle town of tamaran negara and found a great place to stay where the mother of the family cooked really great big thick pancackes with
honey and we also met some cool people in our dorm who we went trekking with. their was a german guy called eyli and a guy from england called matt. We went on a three day two night trek into the jungle and it was one of the greatest expereinces of my life it was a great challange for me mentally and phisically, what made it better for us was that matt was an experienced trekker and had all the gear like water purifier and all sorts of stuff he was very well prepared. I started calling him ray mears because of all the trekking stories he was so keen to tell me about and his overall survival skills. Anayway with our map and no guide except Ray we headed of into the jungle, as im writting this im finding it very hard to explain the experiecne because of walking in dense jungle their is no experience like it. The noises are just crazy especially at night, and the leeches are a pain i rented a good pair of trekking boots so i only had two leeches during the three day's who had a good old suck on my leg.

chinese new year in melaka On the first day a couple from switzerland who joined us where the first to drop out the girl got freeked out when she saw the leeches and then she saw a snake and that was it for her i felt sorry for the bloke because i could see he wanted to stay.
we arrived at our first hide after a couple of wrong turns their was a river you could swim in which was very rewarding after a whole day of walking. We cooked dinner which consited of boiling water and having noodles which was what kept me going for the 3 days, that and a pack of biscuits it was all that i could fit in my bag which was probaly the hardest thing for me on the last day trekking with out having any food was hard because i had no fuel. I was wishing i had packed more food but i was not equiped with a big back anyway we settled for the night, ray mears the barstard whipped out his state of the art single man tent and all we had was a park bench and a sleeping bag in the middle of the
jungle, we choose not to stay of the floor because of all the creepy crawlies.
that night was such a long night the noises where so scary and every time i heard a bush russell of a twig snap it freaked me out as the jungle is inhabited by 100 tigers, although sights a more rare than saints winning a football match. But when your their at night and you can't see anything your mind get's very imaganative. It was a strange situation because all my life if i was somewhere i didn't want to be i could just leave but when i came to terms with the fact and said to myself {jay your in the middle of the jungle you can't get up and go back so just go to sleep} i finally got a bit of sleep. The next day was another very long but exciting walk and we arrived at our next hide and we where up graded to a wooden bed rather than a park bench which was nice. i remeber by this time i was looking forward to just getting back and we where next to the river where boats took you back
to the village it was so temting to give up and go back as i was very hungry and i smelt like my brother justin's foot after he's played a round of golf, also feeling tired from very long walks through the jungle.
But i was to stubborn to give up, later in the evening 4 polish guy's who we saw 6 hours ago whilst trekking turned up to our hide and said we are so glad to see you and begged me for some water, they had been lost in the jungle for 6 hours and were trying to find their way back. all of their expsensive camera's where broke and one of them looked like he was going to drop dead they where so un prepared it was unbelievable, they had no map and one of the guy's was wearing shoes you would wear to an officce job.
that night i was tired and got better sleep looking foward to the last trek back to base camp, i had a nice dream about eating them lovely pancakes i mentioned earlier. the next day we set of early keen to get back because we where tied and

using hands to eat indian food hungry. It proved to be our hardest trek yet as the trial was so steep it was more like rock climbimg up and down for about 10 kilometres. an irish guy we met in the hide joined us for the trek and halfway through we stopped and i had some water that had been purified using tablets, it tasted like pool water, just as i put my bottle down i saw the most beautifull site out the corner of my eye, the irish guy pulled an orange out of his bag which looked delicous i was praying in my head he would share it with me, and then i saw him cut it into quarters and he gave me a piece god bless that irish guy. We made it back and i headed straight to a resturant and orderd a burger and chips and after that i went back to the guest house for a helping of extra thick pancakes. My time in the jungle was over it was a great adventure and i would love to do something like that again i have great memories from that trek.
Next we headed to a different kind of jungle in
the city of kuala lumpur, really good food in kuala Lumpur and the people are really friendly for a city. We went up to the famous sky bridge of the patronas towers and we had a look around one of the many super shopping malls they have that make west quay look like a corner shop. we spent chinese new year in a town called melaka which was a nice old chilled out town it was great wathcing the kids celebrate the new year by setting of these really lowed colorfull fireworks, although it was strange watching a 5 year old set of these big fireworks in the street.
Although malaysia was more expsensive for beer and accomidation we had a great time in this multicultral country. Im in Bali now great to be here after wanting to come back since seeing my brother out here 7 years ago.
