KL's Twin Towers
The Petronas towers once the tallest building in the world, it now claim only to be the largest twin tower building in the world as Taipei 101 has beaten it in the former category. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
Firstly, the more pedantic reader might ask "shouldn't it be three towers?" and they'd probably be more precise, however since Dickens never got round to writing the sequel: "A Tale Of Three Cities", my oh so clever title wouldn't work, so please forgive this inaccuracy.
I call it a tale of two towers because we spent only a short time in KL, which was dominated by our luncheon visit to the "KL Tower" and a quick stop at the "Petronas Twin Towers".
For us, KL was a transit city on the way to a greener Malaysia but it's impossible to avoid and we had to see, what was the tallest building in the world, until 2004. It is a spectacular creation with its twin tower structure, each of which is built on a 8-pronged star motif (two interlocking squares) and has 5 sections representing the "5 Pillars Of Islam". You can visit the "sky bridge" that links the two towers at level 42 (170m high) but you have to be there queueing at 8am. As we didn't wake up until nearly midday (again), we didn't make it - lazy we have become! We did get to make
Eating In The Clouds
The lunch buffet at the KL Tower. the lunch buffet at the top of the KL Tower, which is considerably higher than the sky bridge and the views are far more spectacular, including views of the Twin Towers themselves. The buffet was expensive, by Malaysia's standards but since I had a starter, 3 main courses and 3 pudding bowls full of desserts, I got value for money. That said, my stomach was not as big as my eyes and I struggled with indigestion for the rest of the day - the girls were far less greedy.
Before oeaving, we did squeeze in the second instalment of "Tommy's Walking Tours" through the colonial and Chinese heart of the city, and a few beers, before heading off to greener destinations.
It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done
