Day 1 We take the express train to the airport from Sentral station, it’s a bit more expensive but turns out to be worth it as it’s really fast and comfortable. KL international airport is very impressive, everything looks brand new and it’s very easy to get around. We booked the domestic flight with Malaysian Airways, it worked out at €75 euro each. If we had of booked earlier it would have been cheaper but we weren’t sure what the plan was. Customs and check in had no queues and we just went straight to the gate in plenty of time. There wasn’t many people around so we just put on some music and chilled. There isn’t many people at the gate but strangely I see two couples that were sitting beside us just start legging ... read more

Here we go - back to Malaysia. From Koh Lipe we took the slow ferry for 2 reason: we do not like speedboats, especially those where you have to sit inside which is horrible with a rough sea. And second: it is simply cheaper. And it was a good choice! The sea was indeed a bit rough (in my opinion - as you know, I do not like shaking boats). But we could sit on top of the ferry with fresh air and a great view. We met an amazing travel guide - well it was not our travel guide, but we just saw each other and started laughing right away. Let's say sympathy at first sight. We had a lot of fun giggling for 3 hours. She told us that she was from Kuching in ... read more

Naz: Well what started as a 3 night visit to a little known island off the West coast of Malaysia turned into a week long party with a few activities thrown in now and again. I think it's probably best if I take you through it day by day as there is a lot to get through in this particular instalment of our adventure. Day One: We arrived from Penang via the ferry and headed straight to the Rainbow Lodge as it had been highly recommended. Once we checked in we went to the hostel restaurant/bar for some lunch and a German guy immediately approached us and asked if we had just arrived and then asked us if we would like to join him and a few of his friends from the hostel at the beach. ... read more

Malaysia - Langkawi and Penang – A great way to end the family get together! Our next destination was a small island called near the border with Thailand called Langkawi but in order to get there we needed to hop on board another bus from the Highlands to an island called Penang and then catch a ferry the following morning to Langkawi. So another 24 hours of travelling between locations was in store. I think Mum and Dad were starting to realise what some of my travelling life was like, not easy at times but don't get me wrong I'm not complaining. The bus journey to Panang was painless although not a VIP bus that dad had enjoyed previously but he made it without any issues, travelling result number two, back of the net! I might ... read more

Slept very well last night. Had considered not setting my alarm, but glad I did. I got up and got myself ready and went in search of breakfast. I ended up getting some noodles and apple juice (it was in a can but had bits of small apple chunks in it which somehow made it better) from a place a few doors down. All for just $1USD! The tour guide met me and three other guests at our hotel and I followed them u to the tour drop-off point so I could have my car after. I spent the morning on a Mangrove Tour. Excellent. Mangroves are trees unique to areas where sea/ocean and fresh water converge. They are also home to many different kinds of wildlife. We saw monkeys, eagles, a snake, birds, sea otters, ... read more

My room is able to access the room from the lobby which is nice. The day started off quite early—I woke up around 5AM—I am sure just due to the time change. I am pretty tired so I think that I will sleep well tonight and pretty much be acclimated to the time difference after today. The hotel had a full buffet and quite good. They had a mix of Malaysian food and Western food. Apparently Malaysians eat meat dishes for breakfast. I opted for some vegetables in a curry coconut milk sauce—very good. I also had some waffles with some coconut syrup which was excellent. I took the airport shuttle to the train station then a 10 minute train to the airport. Got on my hour flight to Langkawi. Between my breakfast this morning and ... read more

On the ferry into Langkawi its looked amazing! After a quick lunch in Kenny Rogers healthy restaurant (which everyone hated apart from me) we got to our 'hotel'. We should have realized it would not be great when we turned up and couldn't find the owner or reception! The rooms were definitely the worst yet, the bathroom window is always open and theres a lock on the bathroom door to make sure the snakes don't come in :S. The hotel is about 15mins away from anywhere by taxi so when we went out, we couldn't come back until the evening. We went out to get a curry and a few drinks and realised Thai prices were behind us, in the words of Lonely Planet 'in Langkawi everything apart from beer is overpriced'. The next day we ... read more

This Blog is just a rough text blog, to see photos please check out my main blog at http://scubasteve-ultimatedives.blogspot.com/ Palau Segantang- Kedah National Park Malaysia Around 20 miles north of the port city Penang in the beautiful country of Malaysia is the Kedah National Marine Park. The Malaysian Government has declared the park a protected area since 1985 and prohibits fishing. The park consists of 5 Islands (Palau’s) with the main Island Langkawi hosting a Visitor Center, an underwater observatory some of the nicest beaches you will find in all of Malaysia and some bungalows that can be rented at a very low price. The fact that the Island has no fresh water and all water is collected by park staff who use a series of tarps, and barrels to collect the rainwater may contribute to ... read more

. . .Langkawi. A small island of the north west coast of Malaysia, the island gets its name from the legend of a local bird, Lang being short for the word eagle and kawi meaning reddish brown. With Uncle Matt working during the week we’d decided to catch a cheap flight over to this tropical island as a sort of mini holiday inside a holiday, if that makes sense! After arriving at the airport we jumped in a taxi and headed to Datai Bay on the North side of the island. We were staying at the Andaman Hotel, which had been recommended to us by Mum and Dad’s good friends Linsey and David. Upon arriving at the hotel, myself and Cerri were blown away by how luxurious and grand the place was whilst maintaining that traditional ... read more
