Didn't do much Thursday night, was so tired from being up early for the Fish Market.
Had a short day at work yesterday - finished our room, did a little run through and left by noon. We went out to eat on our way home to my first japanese meal - they were fast. They didnt speak english and the menus were in japanese so we pointed at pictures. What I got was really good. Its hard eating rice w/ chopsticks though, luckily I had a big spoon thing for my soup😊. We got home about 2 and then rested up. Went to Shibuya around 8. We took a bus there and saw the worlds largest pedestrian intersection - lots of people at 8pm, can't imagine rush hour. We went up into a starbucks (yes I said starbucks... also saw a dennys, mcdonalds, wendys, outback steakhouse) to look down on it and get a really good picture, it was crazy being in the crowd. Walked around for quiet some time, then ended back up at a little restraunt that didn't speak english. We went in and took off our shoes, then sat on the floor. It was really cool, because
Food Display
A lot of places have a food display out side of fake foods to show you what the real thing is like the table was in a hole in the floor where your feet could go too. We couldn't read the menu at all, and there weren't barely any menus. We just wanted dessert so we pointed a some words and ended up w/ ice cream. tried this drink that aimee said was good, it was okay - fruity but a little different taste. I'm glad I got mine because it was a cappicino ice cream, the others had nut, and green tea. One had these beans on it that are sweet beans, they're actually pretty good. Really appreciated our waitress for trying so hard to speak as much english as she could. We were in 1 little room w/ someone else that had half walls that split us up. They were having a good time and loud, it was really fun.Got a sucia card which is for the subway/buses, and your put money on it and can just swipe it, much easier than buying a ticket every time. Got back to the hotel around 12am and went to bed around 1.
Got up this morning around 9 and left about 10 for atsakusa. Took the subways there, had to switch
once. All of the girls went except 1 which didnt feel well. This area of Tokyo has shrines and temples and a bunch of street shops/vendors. Saw a lot of neat things that were made in Japan, but still kind of touristy, really like this area though. Saw the shrines and then saw all of these people looking in these mail box things and shaking stuff so we asked a few people if they spoke english and found out that you put 100 yen in, shook this metal container, grabbed a stick out of the hole and found the number that was on the stick (it was a japanese symbol so it took us a while - some japanese people helped us when they saw us looking, all very nice). Once you find the number you pull out the drawer and read your fortune - its in english too. Mine was a good furtune. There was this other thing that looked like a well and smoke was coming out of it. People were standing all around it and pulling the smoke to them. We found another person that spoke english and they said that it was to pray for yourself,
and put the smoke on a part of your body that was ill/hurt. The temple was so pretty. After looking at it Haley and I were taking pictures of us and this japanese guy came up and asked to take our picture - with his camera, so we let him. I swear I would look over and Japanese cameras were pointing at us and taking pictures of us. One girl asked a guy why he was and he said he was taking pictures of happiness. We met up w/ the rest of the group - impossible for us to stay together - and found a little restraunt. Ended up being Indian, and no english menus - the guy actually spoke a little english and helped explain things. I just had a salad because I didn't want to get sick from something spicy. We tried different things on the street from the vendors - one was a pastry that was a soft outside and had a sauce stuff inside (i think they tasted like a thick fortune cookie and i think it was the sweet beans inside), we also had another puff w/ the sweet beans inside, and we had machi
(or something like that) - its soft rice in balls and on a stick w/ different sauces, mine was in a soy sauce and cooked, the others were teriaki and sweet beans. After we ate we went back to a few shops then met up w/ everyone else. We took a boat bus tour back to our area - was able to see the tokyo tower which is supose to be the tallest pt. in tokyo, but sure didn't look like it from the water, and some really cool bridges. Got on subways from there and now are at the hotel. Its exhausting, especially since i guess it takes 1 day for every hour you change to catch up on jet lag. Hopefully soon I wont get so tired on even short trips. Going out tonight but I need to wake up!!! Really had a good day, going to the flea market tomorrow.
