The mosaic I made during the rainy weekend. Ain't it keen? Hello again, everyone. Sashiburi! (Long time no see)
With the exception of last night, I haven't had anything note/picture worthy of an entry. But I'll do my best to give you the lowdown on the past week or so.
Last Wednesday and Thursday were both class days. After thinking about it a bit more (and talking to Dad and Carrie, haha), I've decided to stay in my level 3 language classes. It'll be tough going, but... I just know that I can't learn any more by going backwards, for one thing. For another, I may suck for a while at these classes, but I'm gonna get better! Ganbaru yo ^_^!
The weekend was nothing but rain. It rained all Friday and all Saturday. I was glad not to have class on Friday. I was not glad, however, that I left my clean (and once dry) laundry on the balcony that morning. Luckily, most of my clothes were fine with one cycle in the dryer, but my towels and jeans were soaked through! Ah well... Zannen ne. I did spend some time on a really cool mosaic in my room, though. It was a fun way to kill time,
Ow owww!!
Lauren, the hot biker chick. Damn, G! and I really like the way it looks. I intend to make a bunch more throughout the rest of my room.
With as gross and wet as Friday and Saturday were, Sunday was probably one of the nicest days I've had here, weather wise. Everyone was suffering wicked cases of cabin fever, so naturally I didn't see too many people in the dorms on Sunday. I went to church again. The service was okay. There are some things being said there that I'm unsure of, and it's a very different atmosphere from my Bible study group back home, but I really like the people I've been meeting there. After all, church is about the PEOPLE you're sharing your love of God with. So I'm staying in. It just gets a little confusing sometimes when the ends don't meet up. Anyways, Shelley invited me to a party a bunch of the people my age are going to this coming Friday. Seems like a great chance to know these people further. I'm gonna go.
After church, Lauren went out to explore Higashikurume a bit by herself, and Aimee called me up. We decided to head out on the town and
Blah
Here, kids, is an example of how horrible florescent lighting can really be. For vampires. take advantage of the lovely day. We took the trains back to HonKawagoe and shopped for a while. I really like this town. There are tons of cool places to shop, but it doesn't have the same speed and tenseness as Ikebukuro. It's got a wonderful ease to it. It's a place that I'd feel totally safe exploring all by myself. Anyway, Aimee and I both bought a pair of shoes each -mine actually fit this time. They're awfully cute, and pretty comfortable. Now I have more chances to wear my pretty skirts ^_^. Hurray! Plus I don't have to feel like an American hobo all the time. Haha.
After shoe shopping, we were pretty hungry. Lucky for us there was a rotating sushi bar in HonKawagoe! The sushi there was even better than the place in Hibarigaoka. The salmon on the nigiri sushi (that's rice with fish on top, not the rolls) I had was cool, wet, and very fresh. It was wonderful. And the UNAGI? Oh man. Wow. Plus, I got to have some kinds that I hadn't had yet. I had some mushroom tempura sushi, and some ebi (shrimp) tempura sushi too. They even had some

Anthony went as a Japanese guy. Har har ^_^ sushi with grilled eggplant on the top. I was too full to try it though. Too bad! It was about the same price as the one in Hibarigaoka, which means I'm definitely coming back there whenever I want some really GOOD rotating bar sushi!
All in all, I had a really great time with Aimee. She's pretty cool ^_^. -Here, this particular funny snippet is for the few who will understand it. Aimee had a front tooth taken out before she came here, and she currently has a removable fake tooth in its place. When she comes back to the states, she's getting a porcelain veneer put in. But for now, she can pop it in and out whenever she wishes, making for many entertaining moments... Anyways, some of my jokes have been spilled out for her, and now oftentimes whenever she and I are together, she'll take her tooth out, smile really big and say nice and loud "M'OKAY!"
Good times.
This week, there have just been more classes. We actually practiced in Kendo this Monday. Actually, before I continue, I'll give everyone my schedule. It's always nice to have a better understanding of how I
Spooky Ooky
The decorated party room. spend my week right now, right?

Tuesday Japanese Grammar 3 (12:50 - 2:20)

All right then. Anyways, where was I? Right, Kendo. The sensei was a lot different than I thought he was gonna be. He gave the impression the first week of being some intense silent man who would never actually speak to us, but who'd instead have his assistant teacher do the work. But really, he reminded me this Monday of a funny grandpa who knew little English and is secretly a badass. He was pretty cool, and we got to learn some basic attacks. In my theatre class, we're actually going to learn how to play the koto from a professional musician. Way cool! I'm very excited!
Um... Let's see. Oh, right. Most of the pictures on this entry are from the Halloween party
Bow Wow
Teppei, the cute puppy! on Wednesday. Lauren and I went out to Ikebukuro the night before to buy costumes. Everything was pretty expensive, which gave Lauren the good sense to not go spending the lot... I, however, blew about 7,000 yen on a cape, some gloves, fangs, and some makeup. Yikes. And the cape was the most expensive part! And after that, we went out to eat at a place called Shakey's Pizza. It had some elements of tacky American charm, and the pizza was awesome, so it was a good time had by both of us.
Anyway, the day of the party, Lauren and I left school right after we were done with classes and headed home to get ready for the party. I had some technical difficulties with some of my costume. -I decided to go as a vampire, but the teeth were, for a start, yellow. So I went to the store and bought white nail polish and painted them. Then they were TOO white... And then they kept falling out when I put them in. So... I decided not to wear them. Goodbye 500 yen. Then the white face paint I bought to make me look a little paler
I Walk Alone, I Walk Alone
One of the Swedes went as.. Greenday? wouldn't apply evenly. It kept blotching up all over the place. Goodbye another 1,000 yen. HOWEVER, the cape and the gloves looked great, and so did the black eyeliner I bought. They all went with my dress wonderfully. I looked prooty great if I do say so myself :P. Lauren went as a biker chick. Bought biker gloves at Ikebukuro with me, but the rest of the costume (oh, with the exclusion of the newly-bought fishnet stockings) was already in her wardrobe. She looked pretty awesome.
The party itself wasn't bad. A tiny bit sparse of people, but it was still fun. I didn't feel much like drinking, so 70% of the party's aim was lost on me. I ate a bunch though (big surprise there), and round about 10 or so, I retired to my room. The pictures help say more of the fun had. Some of the best parts of the party were the costumes everyone else had on. We all went to McDonald's together at one point, and that was a little embarassing, though fun. I got twice as many stares as usual, and not good ones. People probably thought most of us were crazy-assed gaijin
Haru Saru
His costume was... pretty great. (slang/slur for foreigner). But still, pretty fun.
Today has been easy. Classes ended early because the school's having a festival this weekend, giving us not only Friday off from classes, but ALSO Monday. BOSS. Four-day weekend! I'm looking forward to having some fun for goodness sake!
Okay, that's all for now. I'll be back again sometime to report more news! Ja ne!
