After a night in Jodhpur we heading on to the Thar desert and Jaisalmer, where at the recommendation of Katie and Rosie we stayed at Desert boys - who had some amazing rooms inside the fort. Kristen and I would head out to the ramparts and admire the view while sitting on the cannon heated up by the sun. The local boating park was very nice - the local architecture very reminicent of the Moghul empire. Kristen had decided a while back that she wanted to do a Camel Trek into the desert, but I was very afraid of getting the hump, so I decided to head on to Udaipur and then to the south of India. had a slight hangover today!!! Firstly went to the shop next door to hotel paradise and bought our other stuff, which we had bought- his tailor agreed to sew a parcel up for us ( 7 cushion covers, 2 welcome doors, bedspread, 2 photo albums, 3 bags and a postcard for Rs 150- weighed 4kg. We then went to the post office, where apparently wax can be found to seal the parcel....NOT!!! We then started the great wax hunting debarcle! You are not allowed to send parcels unless they have been sealed by red wax... so we had to get back in the rickshaw and back to the fort! EVENTUALLY found a handicraft shop who agreed to do it with a red candle and a rupee coin! Back to the post office with 20 minutes before ... read more

Up early (ish!)as had to go and sort train ticket out- we did not realise that half of the indian army had the same idea......... well at least 100!! What a nightmare- gave up in the end and asked our hotel to sort - which they did in less than 3 hours (baksheesh works wonders!!) Picked up our photos- very good and had lunch in the refreshing point (just for a change!!) Set off at 15:00 via a jeep and a bloke (machundra) . First stop was Bada Bagh- royal burial place and econdly to a jain temple at amar sagar. Up at 06:45 due to our favourite illness - delhi belly!!! Immodiumed up and off to meet our rickshaw driver at 07:45. Went to Bombay motors for our "deluxe bus"aka the "busiest bus in bloody india, with hindi music at loud volume to entertain us! 5 hours and 2 touts later, we face the masses at our destination , Jaisalmer "come and see our hotel... my rickshaw for Rs 10" Eventually got in a jeep for Rs 10 with an unbeknown tout, managed to ignore him and got a cheap ride. Hiked up mount everest ... well up the steep hill to the fort and found our haven " hotel paradise"- fantastic room, overlooking the desert for Rs 450 ( should have been Rs 850)- sat reading, looking over the desert before going to lunch at ... read more
