Yes, most of Delhi is pretty ugly. But here and there, if you close your eyes to the ugliness around, there are some lovely places. And even inside the real Delhi, there are some interesting places to explore and experience. We took a guided tour, mainly to save the hustle of finding our way around. The big Hindu temple of Lakshmi Narayan (or something like that) was big... and it had some beauty. Unfortunately we couldn't take pictures inside, so I can only share with you a bit of the external look. It's strange that there are some separate halls, but no one big hall like you see in churches, synagogues or mosques. In one hall there was a small band playing some spiritual music, that was really nice to listen to. Outside Hadas and me ... read more

I took 3 weeks rest in Israel in the middle of my travels. It was great to see my family, my friends (apologies to those I haven't met, time was so short eventually :-) And on Tuesday morning I boarded El-Al plane again, this time with my sisters Daphna and Hadas, flying to Mumbai, India. The flight was ok, but I was terrified of India. Most of all I was terrified of the smell I heard about. And so we landed in Mumbai and I took a deep breath, and - nothing. Really, nothing really bad. Yes, sometimes you pass in smelly places or pass smelly people, but it’s not too bad, and it’s not everywhere or everyone. What’s the story here?? Anyway, I was so relieved… So it’s not so clean around, but so far ... read more

Two days of travel, a few airports, and more times zones than hours slept passed and then finally we arrived in India. We landed in Delhi and were met at the airport by cousins of Lindsays friend Amar. We spent the night at their home outside of Delhi and the next day took a train to meet his immediate family in Chandigarh. All very kind people and a nice introduction to India, not to mention very delicious indian home cooking! Tonight we are back in Delhi and now we experience the chaos that is the essence of this place. Cars, bikes, rickshaws and of course, the holy cows fill the narrow streets, leaving foot travellers to dance and weave between the traffic. The rain that just started this evening is a welcome break from the sticky ... read more

hey, so this is my first entry, i've been in New Delhi, India since the 22nd of august, spent a week with my mom doing the golden triangle (agra, jaipur, and delhi) and hit all the major tourist spots. then on the 30t, my group from LC showed up and we've been busy bees ever since. of course, its been hot, but for the last twdays we've had lovely rain, which has cooled things down a bit. we're staying at a place called the golf apartments, which is a nice little set of rooms with a central eating lounge area where we have our lectures and meals and hang out. we have been working with mainly three people, shardaji, who is this loveable, lively, little pot-bellied old but young-at-heart monkey of a woman, who helps us ... read more

Greetings from completely MAD Delhi. So I'm FINALLY here, after almost a year of looking forward to my trip I'm here!! And it is completely INSAne!! What an assualt on the senses, like we come out of the airport and just to walk to a car to take us to Delhi, we pass about 10 street kids begging (very hard to know what to do there), 3 cows, yes cows like just outside the doors of the airport, and they're sacred u know so that is the one thing cars do try to avoid hitting on the roads (i'll come to that later), men and woman from every religion I can think of it brightly coloured clothing to match, piles of rubbish, heavy rain which seems to be steaming on the cracked pavement, and the sounds ... read more

Any expectation I could have had or prediction I could have made would not have prepared me for the absolute assault on the senses that constitutes the Indian experience. Since the first moment I stepped out of the airport at 2 o' clock in the morning, I was confronted with a place that was unlike any other that I had every seen. The roads were teeming with scooters, bicycles, cycle-rickshaws, cars, vans, pushcarts, and imposing trucks; the only rule of the roads here is that the big fish eats small fish, no lanes, no signals, and traffic lights are a mere suggestion. I basically sat in the back of the older minivan in which I was riding and gazed in awe at the humanity that was everywhere. There were people sleeping in every conceivable place and ... read more

Hello everyone!!! I'm back in Delhi now, and I don't have much time to write because I'm going to head over to Connaught Place (supposedly the tourist epicenter of Delhi, but I haven't made it there yet!) with this French couple who just landed in India this morning. It's funny because I haven't been here long, but I feel like I can show them the ropes, a bit;-) I'm looking forward to relaxing in an air-conditioned restaurant and writing some post cards, then maybe I'll hang out with the cool Indian women I met yesterday. I will try to write a little more before I head out tonight so I don't forget everything, but just know that I'm well (except for the coughing and phlegm), happy, having fun, and also excited to come home. I opened ... read more

Well folks I made it here! After an 18hr flight and much sleep in my hotel I have taken my first motorized taxi thingy to Connaught Place...shit I think that is what you call it. I took a walk about where my holet GOOD TIMES is located yesterday...nothing but car stuff everywhere...carborator shop, muffler shop with a tonne of mufflers just waiting for an owner, indian auto accessories shop, car seat cover shop...it goes on. The shop really is just like an open stall with about 10 men hanging around. Surprisingly I was not harassed...only asked for money once and told I was beautiful twice...lol...I ate my first real Indian food today as well. I can not tell you how happy I was that I brought many energy bars with me...because seriously, that is what I ... read more

Arrive a Jammu, on ... read more
